ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF FOUNDATION RELATIONS


The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Foundation Relations.

Established in 1996, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to elevate the priority of children's health and increase the quality and accessibility of children's health care through leadership and direct investment. The Foundation fundraises for research, training, and patient care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and for pediatric and obstetric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The Foundation also serves as a source of public information about the state of children's health and pursues changes in the system of pediatric health care.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Foundation reports to the Senior Director of Foundation Relations. A member of a three-person team, s/he is personally responsible for raising at least $2 million per year in gifts and grants from a variety of established and new foundation donors, for an array of gift objectives. To continue the growth of the Foundation Relations program the dollar goal will be reviewed annually.

The Associate Director works closely with the Senior Director and the Foundation Relations Associate to achieve annual departmental goals and specific metrics. These include raising an overall target number of dollars, diversifying the donor pool, meeting key objectives of the Breaking New Ground campaign, and providing excellent service to Hospital and School of Medicine physicians and staff.

The Associate Director is responsible for his/her own portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to give $100,000 and above annually. S/he collaborates with a variety of physicians and staff at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford University School of Medicine. S/he helps foster growth, efficiency, and teamwork in the department and throughout the organization.

Essential Duties

The Associate Director of Foundation Relations' essential duties will include:

1. Developing and carrying out an effective analysis of and plan for a portfolio of approximately 100 foundation donors and prospects that have the capacity to give $100,000 and above annually.
2. Raising $2 million or more per year in gifts and grants for the Hospital and children's health programs at the School of Medicine. Understanding basic gifts and grants management.
3. Conducting high-quality prospect research to maximize fundraising outcomes with past donors, those suggested by the faculty and board members, and new prospects.
4. Strategizing and carrying out effective fundraising approaches that meet individual donors' goals and requirements while working closely with physicians and staff at Packard Children's and the School of Medicine, plus Lucile Packard Foundation colleagues and volunteers.
5. Preparing clear, compelling solicitations, reports, and other documents that accurately and interestingly describe child and maternal health programs that interest prospective donors, for facilities, medical education, research, and clinical care.
6. Submitting all necessary materials to donors in a complete and timely fashion. Maintaining excellent records and files online and on paper.
7. Working with the Foundation Relations Associate, Development Communications staff, and Donor Relations staff to recognize and steward donors.

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• College graduate with four or more years experience in fundraising for a nonprofit.
• Experience and success raising gifts and grants from foundations, from identifying prospects to soliciting and stewarding donors.
• Ability to effectively interpret and address the specific interests and needs of each prospect or donor, through email, phone calls, 1:1 and group meetings, formal site visits, proposals, budgets, letters, supplementary information, and other appropriate interactions, documentation and correspondence.
• Ability to develop strong collegial relationships with, and obtain complex information from, program officers, board members, physicians and leaders in the Hospital and School of Medicine, as well as administrators in a variety of roles.
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation; meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven track record of managing and delivering multiple projects under deadline; understanding of the steps involved in administering gifts and grants.
• Excellent writing and verbal skills; samples of previous written work. Ability to creatively and accurately describe and present detailed funding requests and reports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, as well as Raiser's Edge, FC Search and other computer programs.
• The highest standards of professional and personal behavior; excellent judgment and the ability to treat confidential information with discretion.
• A genuine interest in children and their health.
