In this class we will help you prepare for the changes this birth and new baby will bring and give you practical advice on how to make this transition as smooth as possible. Our instructors are experienced postpartum care providers as well as mothers. Topics include:

Blossom Birth is pleased to announce that based upon popular demand, we are beginning a new series of post-natal Pilates mat classes designed for busy moms. Babies are welcome, although the focus remains on the mom.
This post-natal routine is specifically designed to tone the core muscles of the abdomen and back while reactivating and strengthening the deep pelvic floor muscles. These classes are for those moms who are interested in treating themselves to a workout designed to get back into pre-baby shape quickly and effectively.
After giving birth, the abdominal muscles are stretched and have often lost much of their tone. This lack of muscle tone can make women susceptible to back injuries, mainly because of the new physical demands on the mother. If you have been practicing Pilates during pregnancy your abdominal muscles will bounce back at a much quicker rate than would normally happen. If you have not done Pilates, now is a very good time to start!

What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve overall health. Exercises are performed on a mat and on specially designed equipment. The Pilates system includes exercises for every part of the body and applications for every kind of activity. Created in the early part of the 20th century, Pilates was so far ahead of it's time that it did not begin to achieve popular recognition until the first few years of the 21st century. Over 10 million people are now practicing Pilates in the United States and the numbers are growing every year.

Why Pilates?

Bradley Method� Childbirth Preparation (palo alto)

The Bradley Method is founded on the principle that with the proper education and preparation, many women neither need nor want medical interference while giving birth. Most, however, are under the impression that high technology is necessary for a good outcome. On the contrary, routine intervention is often done for the convenience of the doctor or hospital staff, not for the benefit of mother or baby. This interference is distracting and disruptive to the birth process, increasing rather than reducing the risk of obstetrical complications. Since the circumstances surrounding the birth of a baby profoundly influence the couple�s relationship, parenting abilities and ultimately the family unit, the underlying philosophy of the Bradley Method is respect for the integrity of the natural birth process.

The course of the program involves 8 weeks of instruction and discussion regarding relevant issues of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. These include prenatal exercises that condition and tone the body in preparation for birth; nutrition and its effect on the growing fetus; stages of labor and how to work with each to produce the most efficient labor; medical interventions and how to avoid them when they are not needed; cesarean sections and how to avoid an unnecessary one, along with options should one become necessary; and, finally, the effect of the birthing process on breastfeeding and the newborn.

In addition, because labor coaching is paramount to the Bradley Method, time is spent in each class learning and practicing coaching techniques. A thoroughly prepared coach knows what to expect in labor and is, therefore, better able to facilitate the laboring woman�s ability to birth normally. The presence of an effective labor coach not only reduces the need for medical interference, but it also increases the couple�s satisfaction with their birth experience.

Breathing and relaxation techniques are also part of every class. While the Bradley Method�s are the least complicated to learn and do, they have proven to be the most effective. The slow, diaphragmatic breathing that is taught insures a sufficient supply of oxygen for the baby and enhances the mothers ability to maintain a calm and confident attitude.

The Bradley Method is thorough and personal. Classes are limited in size to provide time for each couple's concerns and input. Instructors encourage an attitude of full participation rather than that of a bystander. This type of preparation produces not only the safest births and healthiest babies, but also the most exciting and satisfying birth experiences. Just ask a Bradley couple!

Blossom's Mom-Baby yoga classes are a very comfortable, supportive environment where moms can meet other women, enjoy special times with their babies, and experience the benefits of yoga without worrying about having their babies "bother" others.

These classes have their own special rhythm: moms and babies bond (and bend), do a bit of massage and exercises for the baby, moms check in with each other and support each other, there is some breathing and toning, yoga for the moms, yoga for moms and babies together, an adorable rhythmic yet calming dance for moms with babies in arms, and a lullaby at the end to help calm the babies for their trip home.

Bring a blanket for your baby and wear loose, comfortable clothes. No prior yoga experience necessary. Newborns and their moms are welcome and may participate as gently as you like; if you have questions about when to start, do ask your midwife or doctor.

The practice of yoga is known to enhance awareness of the body and its dramatic changes during pregnancy and after birth. Being aware of the body's inner works will allow you to more easily relax and surrender to the power of labor. Your relaxation will decrease your pain and tension, and thereby increase your level of confidence and your body's efficiency. Yoga helps realign your body with the forces of gravity, constantly shifting during pregnancy, so that life can be experienced not only with more strength, but with a sense of dignity and delight. Each class will include a "check-in," and finish with a relaxation/visualization. Some of the benefits of yoga include:

Description

Kids will develop an understanding of physics, aerodynamics, and system-level electronics in a totally new way during this 4-hour fun and learning course. Flying micro-helis is also an excellent hand-eye coordination and spacial learning activity for kids.

The course will start with a walk-around of a real helicopter, discussing the history and mechanics of these unique flying machines. Then we�ll move to the classroom where every student will receive a fully remote controlled micro-helicopter that they�ll get to take home.

Kids will learn as a group how these amazing micro-helis work, and practice illustrating a �system diagram�.

Then it�s flight time! We will practice take-offs and landings, and fly through mid-air obstacle courses. The last hour will be spent on advanced maneuvers - like landing on a moving robot vacuum.

We will have extra batteries, extra helis, and spare parts on site. Practice is imperative to learning good flight skills, so we want to give kids as much flight time as possible.

About the e-Flite Micro mCX Helicopter: This is a �professional� quality micro helicopter. Although there are many toy helicopters found in toy stores and in the mall, we selected this product because it is much higher quality, allowing for much more controlled and stable flights. It has a Lithium battery for longer flight times, a built-in gyroscope to steer straight as an arrow, and a 2.4 GHz digital remote control. Our experience has been that it is nearly indestructible, and repair parts are cheap, if needed. These are specifically for indoor use and safe.

Learn about shooting portraits using your Digital SLR and professional studio lighting gear in a studio.

We will discuss digital camera shooting techniques including automatic & manual focus, manual exposure, JPG and RAW file formats, and lens selection.

We will also discuss posing techniques, and working with clients & models.

Finally, we will experiment with various lighting techniques using strobes, umbrellas, softboxes, beauty dishes, reflectors, and various backdrops and props.

Please bring your own camera. You may use any camera with a manual mode and a hot shoe (for flash triggering).

I invite you to bring a portfolio (printed photos, JPGs on a flash drive, etc.) of your images. I'd be happy to critique your work, time permitting.

Sam is also a musician and a filmmaker and teaches classes in Pro Tools LE and digital filmmaking at the College of San Mateo. ARTISTIC NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Sunday December 6 2009

This workshop is about creating artistic nude images using your digital SLR in a professional photo studio with a professional female model.

We will start by talking about cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment in the studio. We will talk about planning an artistic nude photo shoot, props, and basic lighting control. We will end the morning by discussing models and model releases.

After the lunch break, we will work with a professional nude model. I will demonstrate how to plan and direct an artistic nude photo shoot. You will be able to work with the model and shoot a photo story of your own using lights and props in the studio. Weather permitting, we may do a shoot using natural light in the studio.

Please bring your own camera. You may use any camera with a manual mode and a hot shoe (for flash triggering). All photos taken by you are for your personal (non-commercial) use only.

I invite you to bring a small portfolio (printed photos, JPGs on a flash drive, etc.) of your images. I'd be happy to critique your work, time permitting.

This workshop is for anyone (photographers, non-photographers, or anyone interested how artistic nude images are created) 18 years of age and older.

Class Size

The workshop is limited to eight (8) students. Once that number is reached, registration will close.

Refunds & Cancellation

The registration fee is non-refundable. If you cannot attend, you will receive a credit for an upcoming workshop on a future date. In the unlikely event of a cancellation on my part, I will refund or credit the registration fee as per your request.
