This 200+ Hour Advanced Studies & Yoga Teacher Training Program offers an excellent foundation for a consistent, deep and committed yoga practice. It is designed both for those who want to teach yoga - or already do teach but want greater mastery of the teaching craft - and for those who simply wish to deepen their understanding of the practice and their relationship to body and mind.
Grounded in the insight that the best way to learn is to teach, our method balances the study of anatomy, physiology, teaching techniques and philosophy with a strong focus on practical experience. We learn the practices on our own bodies, study and discuss them with the group, and proceed immediately to teach our peers and receive feedback. We begin with teaching one pose to one person on the very first day, and end with each of the graduates teaching a full session to the whole graduating class. We thus finish the program with real experience, confident in our ability to lead ourselves and others through a safe, skillful and inspiring yoga practice.
In addition to this unmatched emphasis on hands-on experience, the program focuses on studying and questioning our emotions and self-image. We learn to shed our insecurities and anxieties through the teachings of yoga, so that we can confidently step up to our lives as devoted practitioners and teachers. To this end, we explore and learn how to teach meditation and mindfulness practices in addition to asana and pranayama. Finally, we learn ways to sustain ourselves as teachers with better personal and professional choices.
This program exceeds the universal standards for 200-hour yoga teacher trainings on every level, and graduates of our program are teaching in studios and health centers nationally and internationally.
About the Director of Studies:
Upeksha Yoga founder and director Yehoshua Shy Sayar has over 2000 hours of experience teaching yoga to students of all levels and training yoga instructors. With extensive training in the Iyengar, Power, Shadow and Tibetan Yoga traditions, his teachings range from the most restorative to the most invigorating asana practices, but are unified by the Upeksha Yoga method of balancing strength with softness and studying the mind to transform emotional tension into vitality and joy.
The Upeksha Yoga method combines classical yoga techniques with practices designed to reveal and relieve the emotional tension that we store in our bodies when we are caught up in attachment or aversion. I've had a great five year run of WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY night poker (cash game never a rake) at my place and we're always looking for more players. The game is no limit Texas hold ’em, with one and two dollar blinds, most folks buy in for around $80.00 to $100.00 dollars. If you're looking for nice group of non-smoking, non-drinking, friendly poker playing folks, then send me a reply. Our player’s age range from the upper twenties up to the mid sixties and everywhere in-between. Now, a couple of things here, if you are the type of person that says things like hella and hecka, or what’s up dawg, then this might not be the right game for you. If you are also the type of person that screams and high fives everyone in the room and spills your beer when the raiders score, then please stay away. I should also mention that we are looking for people that can play on a regular basis hopefully NO LESS than a couple times a month and I would prefer people over the age of 23 (young kids tend to go all in constantly) and if you are coming over strictly to play cards and have no intentions of speaking to anyone please don't reply, you must have some kind of a personality, some people that show up are about as exciting as a parking meter. Great game for married couples and ladies, Wednesday’s game begins at seven and Saturday’s as well. We are located in the Emerald Hills which is a little community located in the upper Redwood City hills, snacks and drinks are provided however you are welcome to bring whatever you like. I know it sounds like a lot of rules but that’s how we are able to keep the games going. Hope to see you.
Aikido focuses on self-control and self-discipline instead of punching or kicking and winning or losing. Aikido is non-competitive. There are no competitions, contests, sparring, nor tournaments. There are no winners; there are no losers; there is no score; no one is keeping any score. Instead, Aikido techniques are learned cooperatively according to the pace and skill of each practitioner.
The underlying defensive principles of Aikido make it ideal for the less physical to learn as a method of self defense, though there are many other benefits to the practitioner as training progresses, namely improved level of fitness, Weight Loss, Self-confidence, Relaxation / Stress relief, Co-ordination.
Aikido is an excellent physical exercise and effective self-defense. Moreover, it teaches a philosophy that integrates physical, cultural, and spiritual values that can have a profound effect on one's everyday life.
The Yoshinkan (House for Cultivating the Spirit) Aikido is not a sport. Aikido is the development and strengthening of the body and mind, character and spirit, and the practical side of Aikido must never be forgotten. However, Aikido is for all, irrespective of age or gender.
A "dojo" is a place of study or practice. New students can start practicing Aikido at the Higirikan Dojo at any time. If you are interested in practicing with us, or just curious what Aikido is like, please come by our dojo in South San Francisco. Visitors are welcome to watch our beginner classes. We look forward to practicing our Way of Harmony with you.
Children's classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m.

This social group is intended for people in their twenties that live in the bay area that want to get out more and explore both touristy attractions and/or night life along the West Coast. The group came together about 4 months ago, and so far we've done things together like surfing, LoveFest, White water river rafting, alot of local parties and clubs together, and when it was still light out at night, we were meeting on Thursdays for pick up games of soccer, ultimate, or capture the flag. About 20 of us or so are pretty active in the group, and we're looking for more people to join us with similar interests.
Im 27 and would prefer someone in their late 20's or early 30's too. I typically get along better with guys, but I am not against climbing with females too.

We supply yellow jerseys and the fee per person is 85. We play two 45 minute halves with 6 guys and 5 girls on the field and everyone gets plenty of playing time. There are 10 games in a season.
I have been playing tennis since I was 10 years old and have been playing on and off. I have also played for the Menlo Atherton HS with an unbeatable record of 20-0 in a single season.
I can teach you the basics of tennis where we can go through drills such as footwork, learning the basics for a good backhand, forehand, overhead and serve.
We can go through a light 5-10 min warmup session than we can go through the racquet grip handling, making a good contact with the ball, watching the ball, moving from side to side, and of course learning the rules of tennis.
Once you get the handling on the basis we can go to more advanced drills and make you an improved overall tennis player whether you want to become better at your game or you want to play tennis as a recreational sport.
