The Children's Health Council is located in Palo Alto. We are a non-profit community resource, serving the developmental, educational and behavioral health needs of Bay Area children. Our mission is to make a measurable difference in the lives of children and their families who face severe or complex behavioral and developmental challenges by providing interdisciplinary educational, assessment, and treatment services.
We are searching for a Billing and Collection Manager to join our Outpatient Clinic Business Office. The candidate selected will be a working manager, supervising the billing, collection and data entry staff. Responsibilities will include:
- Service Processing utilizing clinic billing software
- Billing client statements, insurance claim forms and invoices
- County MediCal billing
- Account reconciliation and solving client disputes
- Insurance follow-up and appeals
- Cash application - posting payments, adjustments, etc.
- Collection on past due accounts
- Establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures related to duties of the department
- Month-end processing and reporting
- Processing refunds
Education and Training Required: Four year college degree preferred, experience in social work or health care delivery environment essential, experience in outpatient mental health service delivery a plus
Experience and Skills Required:
- 5 years of supervisory experience
- Significant IT skills/experience with enterprise software
- Minimum of two years recent medical billing and collection experience in a physician's office, outpatient clinic or hospital setting
- Experience with multiple funding sources, such as government programs, private health insurance and private pay
- Experience in contractual agreements and claims adjudication
- Experience with implementation of A/R management systems
- Skilled in Word and Excel as well as Microsoft Outlook
- Skilled in basic office equipment operations
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding and billing requirements
- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology and billing formats
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Able to communicate effectively and professional both verbally and in writing
Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a strong plus but are not required.
