<span></span><p>The George Lucas Educational Foundation seeks a senior editor of education content and research, who will be responsible for the educational quality of content produced by The George Lucas Educational Foundation. In this role, the senior editor brings education expertise to help the Foundation tap industry stakeholders to gain input on content and services. The senior editor plays a leading role in helping the Foundation grow as a audience-focused organization, strengthening the staff's understanding of the needs of target segments of the <i>Edutopia</i> audience (teachers, administrators, active parents, and professors at colleges of education). The successful candidate will have a passion for and a deep understanding of the public education system, the Core Concepts <i>Edutopia</i> advocates, and <i>Edutopia</i> brand and service offerings (free and member supported). It is important that this person also be able to directly manage projects as well as influence projects and initiatives in other areas of the Foundation. This full-time, benefited position reports to the editorial director. The job location is near San Rafael.</p>

<h3>Responsibilities:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide the educator's perspective in all major product decisions affecting <i>Edutopia</i>'s audience and its experience with <i>Edutopia</i>, providing staff throughout the Foundation with key input and guidance on content offerings, the overall brand, and assessment strategies.</li>
<li>Reach out to key education stakeholder groups to identify potential programs and schools <i>Edutopia</i> might feature in its content packages.</li>
<li>Coordinate analysis and dissemination of key audience insights to staff (including surveys, discussion boards, usability testing, and focus groups) to improve the user experience and drive key business metrics (particularly retention and take-action metrics).</li>
<li>Collaborate with external researchers on assessments of processes and outcomes; some grantwriting is likely.</li>
<li>Manage <i>Edutopia</i>'s National Advisory Council, including planning and facilitating the annual NAC retreat and coordinating all ongoing communication between NAC members and Foundation staff, including quarterly updates to NAC members on key Foundation initiatives. In addition, the senior editor will lead the internal process of identifying potential new NAC members and ensuring that the composition of the NAC offers a diversity of perspectives according to the Foundation's selection rubric.</li>
<li>Develop and implement mechanisms to bring the Foundation closer to its audience, including bringing local educators in to speak at staff meetings, inviting colleagues to usability sessions, and presenting user insights at company meetings.</li>
<li>Represent <i>Edutopia</i> at industry meetings and conferences as needed.</li>
<li>Stay current with trends in 21st-century education, with an emphasis on technology-enabled teaching and learning.</li>
<li>Create and/or edit content for print, Web, and other projects as needed.</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>

<h3>Experience, Skills, and Education:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Ten-plus years of experience teaching and/or designing education products for schools or informal learning environments (museums, after-school programs, and so on).</li>
<li>Familiar with traditional and innovative strategies for teaching, learning, and assessment, especially the role of technology, including <i>Edutopia</i> Core Concepts (project learning, technology integration, comprehensive assessment, and so on) and the work of key national organizations.</li>
<li>Basic knowledge of research methods and experience conducting and managing product research and development.</li>
<li>Extensive online-media experience.</li>
<li>Experience planning and managing advisory groups.</li>
<li>Strong user orientation.</li>
<li>Comfortable designing and leading initiatives with little hands-on management.</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with verve and enthusiasm.</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills.</li>
<li>Analytical decision-making acumen.</li>
<li>A strong personal or professional interest in bettering public education.</li>
<li>A master's degree in education or a related field, or equivalent experience.</li>
