In 1920, Rawlings introduced the first glove to feature laces between the thumb & forefinger (previous mitts were no more than padded workmen�s gloves). This glove was called the Bill Doak because it was he who suggested the idea to Rawlings and it was the Bill Doak glove that soon replaced all other baseball gloves and is the standard to this day.

What I'm offering is that glove, a Rawlings, Bill Doak glove.
It is one of the rarest baseball gloves around, and being a Left-Handed Glove makes it even rarer

The glove is in VG+ condition.
It still has a softness to the leather though the dryness of age can be felt.
Still has the original lacing intact.

The one flaw is somewhere it the past someone spilled some paint on it (shown in pics).

About Bill Doak

Bill Doak was Jan 28, 1891. He played 11 years with the St Louis Cardinals. In 1914, he went 19-6 with a league leading 1.72 ERA. He also won 20 games in 1920 and led the NL in ERA again in 1921. He�s also among the Cardinals� top ten, in 8 career pitching categories, with his 32 shutouts, 2nd behind Bob Gibson. Lifetime ERA of 2.98.

Doak�s main pitch was the spitball, earning him the nickname �Splittin� Bill�. When the pitch was outlawed in 1920, Doak was one of seventeen pitchers allowed to continue throwing the spitball. The Bill Doak model glove, which had a profound impact on fielding, was a best seller for years, earning Bill as much as $25,000 in royalties in a year. It was still in the Rawlings line when Bill died in Bradenton on November 26, 1954.

�The Spitball Exception�

The St Louis Cardinals purchased Doak for $500 on the advice of scout Eddie Herr. The blonde six-footer was frail looking and put so much effort into each pitch that rookie manager Miller Huggins suggested he take up the spitball, which required less exertion. Bill followed Huggins' advice and turned himself almost overnight into one of the NL's top pitchers, posting an ERA a full run below the league average in 1914. His 19 victories that season included seven shutouts and two wins over Christy Mathewson, one over Grover Cleveland Alexander, and a big win over the Pirates at Forbes Field on Doak Day before hometown family and friends. Baseball Magazine was so impressed that it dubbed him a prodigy.

Bill Doak took two actions off the field in 1919 that changed his life considerably. First he approached the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company of St. Louis, where he played, about improving the design of the baseball glove, which to that point was meant mainly for hand protection, not functional fielding. Working with Rawlings production chief William P. Whitely, Doak came up with a revolutionary new design that became a prototype of gloves for years to come. Bill explained what made it special: "By enlarging the thumb, bringing it up even with the first finger, a larger pocket is formed and many balls are caught on the very tips of the thumb and first finger." Rawlings first sold the model for $10 as the "Premier Players' Glove" in 1920.

After the 1919 season Doak also played an active role in the successful campaign to grandfather pitchers like himself who already used the spitball from the new ban against "freak" pitches. Initially spitballers were to receive only one transition year, 1920, to use their wet delivery, but the owners reversed their stance and allowed Doak and 16 others to use the pitch for the remainder of their careers.

2005 Burton Air Snowboard. Used for a few seasons but still in good shape. Great park board!! A few scratches on the top of the board as you may be able to see in the photos, nothing that affects the functionality of the board. I've ridden this board for a three seasons and it's plenty fast and manuervable for the groomed runs and has a lot of snap for the park! The board is a size 161. I am roughly 6ft tall and 170lbs - so it fits me well. I've just moved on to a better all mountain board. This board is great for a beginner or as a second park only board.

I also have a pair of Burton Cargo snowboarding pants mens size large. that have never been used. I bought them last year and they are too big. I'll throw them in with the price of the board. The pants are black in color below is more details on them, pants retail for $100. I can send more photos via email if interested. I'll even throw in a Da Kine tuning kit if your interested.
