Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time Reports to: Volunteer Services Director

The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership of Marin (Center) has served Marin County for over fifty years providing resources to Marin’s nonprofit organizations and connecting volunteers with community needs. The Center is a one-stop shop for nonprofit executives and staff, board members, and volunteers. Our main program areas include workshops, leadership programs, volunteer services, executive transition, consulting and community-wide events including the Heart of Marin Awards and the Marin Human Race.

Our Mission: To develop a vital and engaged community dedicated to building and sustaining quality of life. We enrich and strengthen volunteerism and nonprofit organizations, enhance community involvement and leadership, and promote the impact and value of the nonprofit sector.

We are seeking a vibrant individual to join our team as Volunteer Services Associate. Volunteerism is a tool for community change. The ideal Volunteer Services Associate will be familiar with and embrace “HandsOn Network” programs and philosophy. The Volunteer Services Associate will understand, be committed to and be comfortable with the discussion of a new way of supporting volunteerism. They will be willing to challenge the traditional dialogue and be a good relationship builder.


General Responsibilities:

• Lead the development, outreach, and coordination of the Center’s new Flexible Volunteer Program. Duties include developing volunteer projects, recruiting and training volunteer leaders, recruiting and supporting volunteers, and recruiting and managing volunteer committee.
• Assist in the promotion of volunteer services to the public with a focus on volunteers from diverse communities, including public events, technology and publications.
• Help facilitate volunteer recruitment and referral activities that direct adult and youth volunteers, both individuals and groups, to community needs.
• Support Americorps VISTA program with recruiting, some management, and reporting.
• Support BoardMatch program by partnering with lead volunteers to recruit and place volunteers in Marin board positions.
• Manage the Center’s volunteer matching database, including ongoing and periodic updating and reporting.
• Work closely and help support a volunteer services team working on developing volunteers and volunteer opportunities county wide.
• Designs systems to manage and maintain program information, including tracking hours, volunteers, leaders, projects, expenses, revenue, outcomes, impact and additional information required for understanding program strategies, and reporting to funders.
• Respond to inquiries and coordinate volunteer registration and orientation for the Marin Human Race, Heart of Marin and other large scale events.
• Assist with community outreach efforts; help promote volunteerism in schools, after-school programs, and Community Based Organizations.
• Support monthly workshops and discussion groups on volunteerism.
• Provide support with writing and tracking grants and marketing materials.
• Maintain monthly and annual volunteer statistics and trends.
• Assist in the development and outreach for special projects such as Holiday Gifts of Love and United Way’s Week of Caring.
• Help write articles/updates for the Center’s Leadership Journal.
• Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Skills & Attributes:

• Strong interest in serving the community and in promoting volunteerism through a strategic vision for volunteerism in Marin.
• 2 years of professional exp managing a HandsOn program a plus.
• Demonstrated Success at understanding basic volunteer management principals including recruitment, retention.
• Excellent communications skills and ability to use multiple communications channels (email, web, letters, flyers, public presentations).
• Bilingual skills (Spanish/English/Vietnamese) desired.
• Highly motivated, results oriented self-starter, ability to work independently yet takes direction and is a team player.
• Excellent grassroots organizing skills – comfort with balancing “trial and error” with pressure to deliver a measureable change in the community.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Social Networking tools, and leveraging. technology to develop system delivery models to support new and ongoing programs.
• Experience with volunteer program software. Experience with Volunteer Solutions, a plus
• Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, multi-tasker.
• Experience, interest and proficiency in administrative reporting including State and Federal grants and reporting.
• Own transportation and ability to travel throughout Marin.
• Interest in and comfort with diverse populations.
• Connections and familiarity with Marin nonprofits preferred.
• Must be able to work some nights and weekends as required.
