SCHOOL-BASED AOD PREVENTION EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Wolfe Center is seeking qualified and compassionate candidates for a School-based AOD Prevention Education Specialist for a third consecutive year of providing AOD (Alcohol and Other Drug) prevention education in Napa County middle and high schools.
About Wolfe Center:
Wolfe Center is Napa County’s first and only program dedicated exclusively to providing alcohol and drug prevention and treatment services to teens ages 12-18 and their families. Wolfe Center is a nonprofit agency that was conceptualized in 1997 and opened in 2004 by a group of concerned citizens and the Napa County Health and Human Services Agency to address the unmet substance abuse treatment needs of Napa County teens. Wolfe Center provides evidence-based, bi-lingual/bi-cultural alcohol and drug services to over 2,000 teens each year, and currently serves the Napa community with:
*Substance Abuse Prevention groups on middle and high school campuses throughout the entire Napa County
*Early Intervention Services on middle and high school campuses throughout the entire Napa County
*Substance Abuse Treatment Groups on middle and high school campuses throughout the entire Napa County
*Intensive, Outpatient Treatment Programs located at the main Wolfe Center facility in downtown Napa
*Parent and Community Education and Support regarding alcohol and drug issues
The Wolfe Center programs are respected as progressive and innovative programs and have received prestigious awards and recognition from the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, as well as a commendation by the Napa County Grand Jury.
SCHOOL-BASED AOD PREVENTION EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Position Summary
The School-based Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for the implementation of Wolfe Center’s AOD Prevention Program conducted in Napa County middle and high schools for a third consecutive year. This individual is responsible for the delivery of the evidence-based established Insight and COSAP curriculums at middle and high schools, working closely with teachers, counselors and Family Centers to implement the program and submit required documentation, evaluations and statistical reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications:
1. A BS/BA in the social services, human services, education or related field or equivalent alcohol and drug counseling experience.
2. Experience conducting a curriculum-based program, preferably in middle and high school settings preferred. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
3. Ability to relate to adolescents one-on-one and in small group settings.
4. Access to personal car, valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance. Travel is required to assigned school and outreach sites.
5. Ability to be flexible with some evening and weekend work required (e.g. parent events, school related events, outreach, trainings).
6. For positions designated “Bilingual:”
a. The ability to speak, read and write with proficiency in both English and Spanish; and
b. An understanding of the cultural norms of the Latino community in Napa County and their basic significance to the delivery of family based substance abuse prevention services to Latino adolescents;
7. The ability to function effectively in a collaborative, team-based working environment which emphasizes self motivation, accountability, professionalism, and accountability to clients, colleagues, partner agencies and other constituents of the program.
8. No conviction of any felony or any crime relating to (i) the victimization of children; (ii) violence; or (iii) sexual misconduct; unless the crime is disclosed to the employer, reviewed, and waived based on the employer’s determination that it does not evidence risk to clients or others. All positions require fingerprinting and a background check, a clean driving record and proof of auto insurance.
9. At no time has the applicant been disqualified to provide services which are reimbursable through any Federal or State funding stream, including MediCare or MediCal funding.
10. A TB test is required. A physical exam and any other requirements specific to the program and applicable county, state or federal requirements for working with youth in addiction settings may be required.
Hours: This position is part time, 20-32 hours per week. The schedule for this seasonal position is based on the middle and high school academic schedules. No or very limited work hours are scheduled on school holidays, non-student days and school holiday break periods.
