Don Sebastiani and Sons is currently looking for a Human Resources Manager to facilitate and coordinate daily HR activities to include but not limited to recruitment, compensation, benefit administration, employee relations, and training.

The ideal candidate will live in or near Napa, California and be able to work in our Napa winery facility regularly with some time spent in our Sonoma Headquarters office. The position reports to our Vice President of Human Resources and is a member of the HR team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration and a minimum of five years HR experience. Thorough knowledge of and experience working with employee benefit programs, recruitment strategies and management, tactical HR activities, investigations, employment laws, compensation, and employee relations in positions with increasing responsibility is required. Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word are critical.

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for directing and coordinating human resources activities, such as recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and employee services.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Working with the Vice President, Human Resources, recommends, develops and implements human resources policies and procedures; prepares, maintains and distributes the employee handbook.
• Conducts recruitment efforts to attract qualified candidates through the design and placement of job postings; interviews candidates and provides management with hiring recommendations.
• Coordinates the hiring process including conducting background and reference checks, negotiating salary offers, and issuing employment offer letters and other communications.
• Directs the new employee orientation program to foster positive employee morale and retention; trains managers in conducting orientations.
• Participates in managing the companies compensation program; works with managers to write and update job descriptions; participates in annual salary surveys.
• Participates in the conduct of the focal and merit pay programs including providing guidance to managers and supervisors in the use of salary ranges and increase guidelines.
• Participates in the design of company-wide benefits programs and administers such programs including processing new hires, terminations, leaves, etc.; resolves issues with the assistance of brokers or third-party administrators; and acts as a resource to employees and assists with enrollment/change/termination and/or questions and resolution of problems.
• Assures the proper administration of COBRA, leaves of absence, and other mandated programs.
• Establishes and maintains department records and reports; analyses data, prepares reports and makes recommendations on a variety of human resources issues.
• Maintains company organization charts.
• Coordinates the exit interview process and communication of findings to management.
• Coordinates a variety of training programs in employment, recruitment, effective supervision, handling employee situations, and sexual harassment
• Reviews employee relations issues and recommends appropriate responses to management.
• Directs the maintenance of human resources records and data systems

Education/Experience/Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, five years HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• PHR certification preferred.
• Five years experience in increasingly responsible positions where a thorough knowledge of employment laws, recruitment strategies, employee relations skills, and tactical and strategic HR administration skills would have been obtained.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to excellence and high standards.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Windows operating system. Experience with HRIS and Payroll systems a plus.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
• Good judgment, versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
• Acute attention to detail.
• Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Requirements:
• Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to drive on behalf of the company and eligible to be covered under company auto liability insurance.
