Marin General Hospital, a not-for-profit facility, opened in May 1952. It is the largest acute care hospital in Marin County and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Marin General Hospital is licensed for 235 acute care beds and works in close partnership with Novato Community Hospital to provide for the health care needs of 175,000 residents of Marin County. Marin General Hospital affiliated with Sutter Health in 1996. Recent additions include a new Cardiac Cath Lab (opened in November 2006), and the installation of a new $1.6 million CT Scanner.
The Lead Pharmacist contributes to therapeutic decision-making by participating in patient care, particularly pharmaceutical care, providing drug information, formal and informal presentations and consultations on medication use in the hospital. He/she assures the accurate and efficient distribution of drugs and oversees the usage of pharmaceuticals within the facility. He/she also promotes rational, cost-effective use of drugs within the facility while assuring the quality of pharmaceutical care and optimal clinical outcomes. In addition, the Lead Pharmacist provides authoritative drug information to other health care professionals, patients and the public. In addition, provides day-to-day oversight of workload and staffing issues.
A. EDUCATION Require level of education necessary for licensure as a pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy. Prefer graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy. Prefer Pharm.D. degree and/or completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent.
B. EXPERIENCE Two years experience in an acute care hospital pharmacy preferred.
C. PREREQUISITE SKILLS Current knowledge of drugs, their composition, actions, uses, toxic effect, dosage, availability and distribution. Ability to prepare sterile solutions. Familiarity with Federal and State laws regulating the profession of pharmacy and handling of drugs. Superior ability to work tactfully with patients, public, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team, and skillfully supervise daily workflow and personnel. Ability to demonstrate initiative, and problem identification and solving skills. Excellent written and verbal skills for teaching, presentations and persuasion. Demonstrated organizational skills. Knowledge of pathophysiology and disease states required to evaluate complex therapeutic issues and to monitor and advise on drug therapy.
Ability to lead a team of peers, evaluate staffing needs, and facilitate problem-solving. Ability to mentor other team members. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements, particularly those involving controlled substance accountability. Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems preferred. Knowledge of PYXIS Medstations preferred.
LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Licensure as a pharmacist in the state of California required.
