Seek Art Teacher/Aide 4 develop. delayed Young Woman (novato)

Hello,
My youngest daughter is a 22-year old lovely young woman who was born with a developmental disability (Fragile X Syndrome.) She functions anywhere between a 6 - 12 year old level, depending on the situation. She's a very sweet person with a rich imagination and wonderful artistic talents. She's usually quiet and soft-spoken; sensitive to noises, "vibes" and energy of all types; loves books; photography; music; nature; animals -- especially kittens!; and she loves to laugh! Got any good knock-knock jokes?

She's fully ambulatory, (not in wheelchair,) verbal and functions well, overall. This is where the role of "Aide" comes in: her unseen challenges are triggered when stressful situations arise and her anxiety/fears overwhelm her, but she's not for "behavioral outbursts"... all she needs is reassurance and encouragement to be brave and either confront the situation wisely or avoid it!

As a natural artist, she wants to spend more time creating. She also enjoys going online and she'd love to be able to create with an illustrations program, so we'd especially appreciate a "Techy" who could expand her horizons that way. She would probably like to put her profile on Facebook or a similar site (maybe one for those with different abilities>?) She also loves photography and has a digital camera. So, we're looking for an art teacher or experienced artist who would work well with her on projects she likes, from simple cartoon-type illustration, to sculpting in a variety of mediums. She enjoys drawing abstract designs w/ markers, tracing over cartoon characters, collage, working with clays, scrapbooking, painting, plein air; and the list goes on. She's very spontaneous and likes to let her creative energy carry her through a project... so her teacher would need to offer enough instruction to assist her without impeding her creative flow.

She also loves to go to natural history museums, art museums, galleries, Exploratorium, etc... but she's sensitive to crowds and the traffic of the city, so it's best to take those trips when the masses aren't out! She's drawn to history, legendary characters, and famous contemporary artists like Dr. Seuss, Jim Henson, Walt Disney, etc. Right now her "boyfriend" is Beetlejuice... he's not just the creepy dead guy played by Michael Keaton in the movie of the same name, but a real-life character working at Universal Studios, Hollywood, whom she's met and visited... he's been very good to her, so she's decided, he's her one true love! She's also drawn to Goth, nail polish, etc... even though half her bed is covered with stuffed animals. She's living in between the child/teen stages. Really cool, actually!

The Aide part of the job would also include helping her with daily tasks, like running errands or helping her to clean her mouse cage. (But if you're afraid of mice, you won't have to do it! :-))

She has attended a creative arts day program in the past which held art shows a few times a year and her work always sold, which was so good for her self-esteem on many levels. If you have the connections to offer her the opportunity to show/sell her work again, you'd be at the top of our list!

Preferably, I'd like her to join a small class where she's working in a group but not being neglected. Beyond that, working with you 1:1 in our home and/or your studio works, too. I prefer she get picked up and dropped off from home, but that's negotiable and flexible. We prefer to not drive beyond 10-12 miles of Novato. (Marin County and Petaluma areas are best, but again, we're flexible if something wonderful is presented!)

DAYS, not evenings, unless it's a special occasion; weekdays or weekends. She likes to be home after dark, generally, so day availability is needed.

The teacher will need a very positive attitude and be generous with praise and encouragement. If you're a quiet, serious type, this isn't the job for you! She responds to joyful, sweet, kind, happy people who love to laugh! :-D

Basically, she understands things at face value, so sarcasm/metaphors/parodies will take some explaining. She can misconstrue people's words, and her feelings get hurt on a regular basis, even if someone looks at her crooked, so that's just part of the job... working with her to understand intentions. Yes, this job will require patience and a love for people who see the world differently than most.

She's hyper-senstive to touch, so high-fives are good, but for all other physical contact, like hugs, just ask, "Can I give you a hug?" She's getting better at receiving/giving touch, so go ahead and ask if it feels right to you. Never grab her hand or arm to show her something without asking first. Just respect her personal space, basically.

Teacher must:
Speak fluent english
Not smoke cigarettes/drink/use drugs
Have personal and professional references
Have reliable car/insurance/clean DMV record.
Have local personal and professional references
Be willing to submit to a BACKGROUND CHECK/FINGERPRINTED

College students are encouraged to apply, as well as artists of all ages/gender/experience.

Ideally, we'd love for this to work out "long term" (9 months or longer,) but we're open to short term arrangements, as well. It's imperative that you are sensitive to my daughter's world and that you're able to connect with her on a mental and emotional level. It doesn't always happen, so if it's not a good match, don't take it personally. :-) She'll know within 1-2 visits if you're someone she can hang with.

Wage is $14 per hour, cash, to start. After 3 mos., wage will increase to $15 per hour, cash. (For those artists who are accustomed to making more, sorry! We can't afford more right now.) We'll cover the cost of materials that she uses for her pieces/projects. If you'll be making your own piece, you'll need to absorb that cost. We'll also give you gas money if you will be working with her on location: going to your studio, plein air adventures, trips to museums, galleries, events, etc. You'll pay for your meals out and related personal expenses as well as the cost of your commute to and from our home (if you work here or if you pick her up for outing.) We'll cover the cost of events for you both, (admission to galleries, etc.)

Hours are part time, up to 12 hrs. per week. Currently we need someone for WEEKDAYS for 2,3 or 4 hours anywhere between 10 AM - 4PM. Weekend DAYS are also possibilities.

When responding, please email the following details: 1) Related experience/resume and references; 2) If possible, pics of your work; 3) The city/town where you live; 4) Your available days/hours; 5) If you have an available studio or art room; 6) If you'll be working 1:1 or in a class setting. Thanks, in advance, for the details -- helps me set up an interview sooner!

Below are some of her drawings: Stinky Monster and Two-headed monster juggling grapes!... and some of her photos... We look forward to hearing from you :-)

Thank you!

North Bay art student is looking to create a short animation project to gain experience and develop a portfolio.

I am looking for a collaborator or two who are in a similar position and who would be excited to create a sci-fi spaceship episode with a mostly human crew. I am live in Novato and I am hoping to find some people that are not too far away.

I am interested in creating the project using 3DS but I’m open to Maya, or even a 2D platform like Toonboom. Perhaps a combination of 3D and tradigital art would be possible.
I would like to have this project finished within a few months. I’m mostly looking for attitude and perseverance as well as art. Drop me a note and we’ll go from there.

Sculptors wanted (san rafael)

I am a local animator that has bagged the game industry after 12 years to work full time on making ventriloquist figures. My specialty is the mechanics: they blink, wink, upper lip sneer, stick out tongue, eyes move in all directions and the brows go up and down. Oh....and they wiggle their ears , as well. Prolem is I am not very good at sculpting the heads for my figures.

That being said and done...wht I am looking for are sculptors who have busts or heads they have already done and would like to turn them into ventriloquist dummies. The process involves me making a rubber mold of your sculpture to cast in urethane. you get the sculpture back and $200. So basically I'm renting your sculpture and getting permission to make a dummy out of it for $200.

obviously some restrictions here:
size: about the size of a childs head - maybe bigger- but certainly not larger than life
medium: must be made of some material that will not be destroyed in the mold making process. Metal is best but clay works well...plaster a bit iffy and paper mache a no no

if interested contact me with or without a photo or discription of an item you may have as a candidate
