Here is why. (I am a dude, just wanted to say that....before we start )

So let�s say she�s looking for a decent guy, so she posts an ad: �hi, I am confident attractive young woman who is looking for confident secure man. With a job.�

And the waterfall of emails begins. By the time a big hand goes around the clock once, she probably has 20 something emails with nearly identical subject: �Hi, I saw your ad� or nothing short of �Hi, u r cute�, and once in a while �hello there!�.

Poor girl now has to sort through several dozen of emails to find gold in the dirt. Unfortunately, they all have few things in common: an overused compliment �u r sooo cute/hot/etc.�, a supplicating tone �please, please like me, here I am�, or immediate date invitation �hey I am going to be bored all weekend, let�s hang out!� (aka, please entertain me), and all this is accompanied by self description that you typically find on one�s resume.

And just like a message sprinkled with un-welcomed sexual innuendos or just plain straight proposal for sex, they all head for the trash. Sadly, without even being read.

Did I mention un-expected surprise attachment of male genitalia? So you get my point.

Now, the very thin line between trying to be original and trying too hard is nearly invisible. A guy can sneeze wrong way, and cross that line without even knowing it.

It�s very easy to hide behind a �screen name� and say anything you want. Because, in a way, �we are all so much cooler online�. But, Reality Vs. I am really tired of the expression "Partner in crime". I dont know what it means. I dont think the people who write that in their ad's know what it means exactly either. FUNNY! You are more than funny to your just friends and relatives. You were born with the funny gene (and maybe even have a funny Uncle Gene). Not Dane Cook "funny". Not Jeff Dunham "funny". Not even Cathy Griffin "funny". I mean REALLY funny. As in, you could be funny for a living if you werent so busy doing smart things (see above).

Those are the two big ones. If you dont fit those two criteria (August 2) I am sure you have a large group of cats that need to be fed and you should attend to their needs.

Well I am 43 (just turned, happy birthday to me). I am a tall and big guy. 6'5". I have short, salt and pepper, slicked back rockabilly style hair with long sideburns, and tasteful tattoo's covering my arms. I live in the inner-Richmond district in a medium sized studio, all by my lonesome. I have a really great car that is older than me that I love to work on. I have a car-hole for said car (parking is important). I am a jeans and t-shirt and chucks wearing kind of guy. I also hate when people talk about wanting a guy who "can transition from the golf course to a 5-star restaurant in the same day" WTF does that mean? And how snooty! I own a suit for weddings, funerals, and job interviews. I have been told I look good in it. Yikes! You should feel grateful that the guy you date answers the door wearing pants!

I love music and so should you. I am an encyclopedia of everything from punk, indie, garage, old country, northern soul, jazz, obscure 60's French pop, and even 80's (pre-gangsta) hip hop. I love helping people discover new music (or new to them) as much as I like fidning it on my own.

I also love movies. Everything from foreign crap to action movies. However, my passion is old film noir, old horror and sci-fi (I'm not a Trekkie).

TV, some selected programs, is also great. I love Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, The Soup, the Stewart/Colbert hour of power, Simpsons, etc. You should have a TV you watch and cable/satelite dish plugged in. DVR's and Netfilx are wonderful things too.

I am not the "Hey, lets go hiking to the paragliding spot so we can go wine-tasting before snowboarding in the triathalon" type of guy. That kind of stuff is for people who come here from other places and used to have corn in their backyards. I am all for seeing the sights. I prefer to do it while taking a drive. I am a city mouse. I like going to movies, hole in the wall restaurants, darkly lit bars, seeing live music, shopping for records, flea markets, independent book stores and car shows.

More about you...

You should live in or nearby SF (like oakland, berkeley, upper pen). You should be between 30-40 (give or take). You should be looking for a long term relationship with the idea that, should everything go really great, getting hitched and popping out a bambino or two might be in our plans sometime down the road (Single Mom's, I am sure your kids are great, but I want to do this as a first time experience). You should also really like me. That would help.

To be honest, while they have their place, looks are less and less important to me. However, in an ideal world you would be tall, curvy (and then some), red headed, and had the power of time travel. But like I said, I am not super picky about this.

Please no Burning Man (woman), conservatives, married, living with your ex, no hard drugs (occasional wacky weed ok, not every day though), and you probably own no more than one item of clothing with the words "The North Face" on it.

I wonder if all of the wonderful people of Craigslist realize what they're missing when they set hard boundaries like they so often do. Many, many people who use Craigslist are doing so nervously, unsure of what they will find and who they will meet, and it doesn't take much to make a person move on to the next post if they feel like they won't be well received. There are so many examples of this, but I think age is one of the more prominent ones.. If someone has stated they have a boundary of 28-35 years old, what if I am 27? And then the whole "no pic, no reply" phenomenon. Yes, I am WELL aware of why this seems to be the rule, but many people that happen to be quite attractive aren't photogenic for one reason or another, or they may simply never have the occasion to have their picture taken. My ex-GF was very attractive, and everybody thought so, but despite this, she was never happy with any of the pictures ever taken of her, so I know she'd never want to use them in a situation like this, which would leave her disregarded by many of CL's elite. The same goes for pictures of me - I think most photos of me look absolutely asinine, but I am generally considered to be a good-looking man. It's things like this that make me think that it would be wise for us all to try to keep our minds as open as we can, as we never know what we might find until we find it. Not having a picture doesn't always mean that someone isn't attractive. And when it really comes down to it, you really can't tell whether or not someone is really attractive by their picture in some cases, as low quality cell phone cameras and MySpace angles often play a big role in diminishing the usefullness of the photos exchanged here.

Personally, I'd like to keep my odds the best they can be, for I wouldn't want to miss out on meeting someone wonderful on account of something that may not even matter.

My short story is that I am looking for someone who is open minded(duh!), as I'm open minded to be sure. I think many, many people get caught up in the specific things they're looking for, and aren't open to the potentially wonderful unknown. We may have certain things that are absolute hard and fast rules, and that's fine, but we should all consider the unknown, for it may hold that which you seek, if only you're open to find it...

I've decided that what I'm really looking for these days is a whole new breed of dating "relationship" -- call it the " friends with privileges with potential" It's a little more than a classic friends with privileges, but less than a girlfriend. I love Nightlife at the California Academy, especially when the sky is clear and you can watch the stars from the Living Roof. There are a few places in the Mission I'll go to for a burrito, an adult beverage or some hipster literary event. I love the coziness of a home-cooked meal, a bottle of wine, bread and butter. Cool air and warm feet - unbeatable.

Chemistry, schmemistry: let's hang out first, and see what develops (hopefully the former!). Maybe we can both check out the legendary Marina Safeway together and try to hook each other up with someone horribly inappropriate. Or horribly appropriate, for that matter.
