Monik has worked for our family consistently part time for over 4 years now, and has been indispensible. I really can't imagine how we could have done without her help and attentive nature.

What does she do? She plays with and tends to the kids and provides them interaction they need. She is patient and caring. But unlike so many sitters, she doesn't stop there, she also takes time to clean the kitchen up and organize messy areas that seem to go hand and hand with having kids.

In Brazil, I used to work with kids for a period of 4 years teaching Portuguese, but my biggest experience is the maternity. Currently, I am working for few hours for 2 different families in Ross and I have some free time I would like to fill with another family.
I believe that a nanny has a very important role in the kid's and family's life. Nannies also have the role of educators. When the parents aren't around, the nanny is responsible to teach important things to the kid, like: "say please, sorry, excuse me, thank you". If the kids are scared, they will feel safe around the nanny. If the kid lost a tooth he will celebrate with the nanny. If he or she is hungry, thirsty, cold, dirty, happy, sad or sick, the nanny is there to help out. She can cook, read a books, play and help in so many ways. I think the nanny job is a very important job, we are examples for the future of the kids and they can see the nanny as a friend. In the time when the child is building it's personality, the nanny definitely is part of this process.
Working with kids allows me to learn and teach all the time.
I like to go to the parks, museums,movies ,library, playground,restaurants,beach, lego land. I like to stay home too, playing, making art and crafts. I am very creative. In my car I have stories cd's and a lot of books, as some times I have to drive from place to place and the kids can get anxious so they have some distraction in the car.
Something I do once a month to entertain them is the "Tale Time" , this is a special day, when I go to work dressing up on costumes and the kids dress up too and I can play making arts, read books or watch cartoons and movies about the theme I pick. Last month we played pirates, reading maps and hiding treasures in the garden, it was so much fun. In October, the theme is Halloween and I have lots of ideas.

Parents-The Au Pair Program does not want you to Know or Think about (California)

The people at the Au Pair Programs do not want Parents to know about problems, they don't want the Au Pairs to think about issues either. They think if they can surpress the issues and deny it will do away. The only way the problems are going to go away is when there is REFORM of the Au Pair Program and More Over Sight. A better check and balence system.

How GREEDY can they be. They will still have plenty of business, because they have been pushing young Au Pairs at $340 a week for flexibe child care, evening, weekends and while at work. You set the hours. Those hours they say go over the 45 hours and a good reason why SO MANY Au Pairs leave the program once they get here. They don't want to be SLAVE LABOR.

This has now been flagged 2x. I am a parent, and child care advocate and will continue with this along with others who truly believe in the Au Pair program which was passed in 1986. That was Education and a Cultural experience for young people to come to the US, in exchange for SOME CHILD CARE AND A SMALL SALARY...The program was never intended to be full time 45 flexible hours of CHILD CARE.

Unemployment is the highest it has been in decades and going to get higher .

We have moved our factories out of the United States to save money on Labor

We are bringing in worker to fill jobs once held by people here in this country, to save money.

HOW IS THIS ECONOMY GOING TO GET BETTER ?

Stop the flood of people coming into the US to fill jobs formerly held by people who were here in this country.

THE AU PAIR PROGRAM WAS A GREAT CONCEPT IN 1984, the demand of qualified child care providers exceeded the supply.-----

NOW THE OPPOSITE EXISTS....We have more Nannies here in the US looking for jobs then there are jobs, YET THE AU PAIR PROGRAM GETS TO BRING IN MORE AND MORE AU PAIRS EACH YEAR. The program which was for Education in addition to Cultural Exchange and some child care TURNED INTO WHAT AMOUNTS TO IS SLAVE LABOR for these young Au Pairs coming into the United States.

$500 dollars toward Education is not enough. Perhaps 23 years ago it was, but not now.
:$195 dollars a week for 45 flexible hours, which turns into more than 45 hours is not a fair wage.

THE PROGRAM TURNED INTO MASS MARKETING for the NON PROFIT AU PAIR PROGRAMS, who take in Hundreds of Millions of dollars each year.

Hi. I would like to highly recommend my daycare provider for any parents in the Concord area. Nasrin (pronounced "Nas-reen") Shafie has been watching my 26 month old daughter since she was 9 months old. I was very nervous when I first placed her with Nasrin, as I had been less than happy with the previous daycare experience. Very quickly, my anxiety melted away as I realized that Nasrin was one of the most loving, nurturing, dedicated people I have ever met. Each day when I drop off my daughter, she is lovingly embraced by Nasrin, who speaks soft, kind words to ease her separation from Mommy. Nasrin makes homemade, nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for all of the kids, including the babies--my daughter probably eats better at Nasrin's than she does at home! Because the daycare is in Nasrin's home, my daughter has the opportunity to spend her days in a "home-away-from-home," with yummy smells coming from the kitchen and all of her stuff (diapers, clothes, favorite blanket) right there for her--there's no packing a bag in the morning, Nasrin keeps all of the children's things there. The daycare is small, as well, so it's just a few children/babies, rather than 8-12 little ones competing for attention.

For a long time I thought that the majority of what my daughter got at Nasrin's home was pure love and affection, but as she has gotten older and more verbal, I have realized she is learning a tremendous amount while at daycare as well. My daughter has excellent manners, which people comment on regularly, and these began shortly after she started at Nasrin's. She also comes home singing new songs that she could have only learned at daycare. She knows a few letters, can sing the entire alphabet song, and all of her numbers up to about 17, and much of that she learned while at Nasrin's. Nasrin treats all of the babies and children as if they are her own, and it is obvious to any parent whose child is lucky enough to have her as their daycare provider. Nasrin now has a few openings for babies and children and I recommend that parents call her if they need childcare. She is a blessing! Her rates are very reasonable. Our nanny share family's child is off to pre-school and we're looking for another wonderful family to take their place full-time, Monday-Friday in Pleasanton.

My nanny has great energy and personality! She is the mother of a grown-up daughter who lives in Brazil and a well-mannered, sweet teenage son who resides with his mom. She has many years of experience as a nanny; is extremely reliable, dedicated, observant, flexible, communicative and joyful. She loves to sing songs, read books, spend time outside and have fun interacting with the kids. Although we always talk about each day, she also manages a daily log. Brazilian Portuguese is her first language but there's no language barrier: she is very well educated and fluent in English. The other family conducted a background check and she is child CPR-certified. Most importantly, I know she loves my daughter very much and this gives me peace-of-mind while I'm away.

I am a single mother of one exceptional little 7-month-old girl and I live in the downtown area of Pleasanton. I would prefer to share with a Pleasanton family who will think of our nanny as an extension of our own families and not just an employee. We'll be hoping for at least a 1-year commitment. College educated, I'd be able to offer your children advice about how to approach their homework. As a general rule, unless it's raining cats and dogs and we're all tearing our hair out, I'm opposed to using television as a spell binder. My childrearing philosophy is to praise kids to the skies for anything that's even remotely praiseworthy, ignore the misbehaviors as long as possible before banishing him or her to "think things over", and always look for the good in them. I'm particularly fond of reading to kids, and have been known to bring carefully selected books from the library to my sessions. I also pride myself on knowing the parks with the best climbing trees, and my ability to come running when one of your kids comes down with the sniffles when you've GOT to be elsewhere.
