Professional and Technical Writer for RFP Team - Temporary/Contract Position

November 2009 through April 2010 – Potential to become regular position.

A significant portion of Accela Inc.’s new business is gained in the competitive procurement process. The company is looking for an individual experienced in the field of proposal writing and production to temporarily join our Request for Proposal (RFP) team.

The successful candidate offers abundant talent in the field of persuasive writing and must demonstrate proficiency in government-based competitive bid processes. Personal dedication to organization and document compliance is critical.

At minimum, interested applicants must send a copy of their resume and a cover letter detailing their qualifications for this position. Additionally, we strongly encourage applicants to send writing samples with their initial application.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following)

*Lead the review of assigned RFP documents and the preparation of company responses, in compliance with all solicitation requirements and company standards.
*Work with assigned project team to develop sales strategies, provide technical guidance, and hold overall responsibility for technical proposals/RFP responses.
*Compile and submit intelligent and relevant questions based on RFP review.
*Coordinate with participating departments to gather necessary information for bid completion (examples include pricing, legal reviews, etc.)
*Prepare formal, detailed, and comprehensive proposals for company software products to governmental agencies. This includes, but is not limited to
*Initial document setup
*Custom writing
*Educated use of boilerplate documents
*Soliciting participation from other departments when necessary (and knowing when necessary)
*Completion of all forms
*Printing, binding, and shipping proposal submissions

*Aid in creation of post-proposal literature and communications (clarifications letters, demonstration presentations, etc.)
*Communicate effectively and professionally with other departments (i.e., Sales, Services, and Marketing) and with clients (pre- and post-proposal submittal)
*Assist other RFP team members in the preparation of proposals, as needed
*Ability to manage multiple projects (you may be assigned as many as ten (10) projects at a time)
*Administrative responsibilities as assigned (includes project logging and filing, FOIA requests, copying, etc.)

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have:

*A four (4) year degree from an accredited institution;
*Four (4) to six (6) years minimum experience in the field of proposal preparation, or similar;
*Superior verbal and written, conversational and formal, communication skills; superior command of the English language
*The ability to work independently and as part of a team
*A strong work ethic and deadline driven personality
*The ability to work well under stress
*Strong persuasive, professional writing skills
*Proficiency in writing about complex software technologies in a manner that is accessible and easily understood by both non-technical and technical readers
*Proficiency in PC environment and considered an MS Office super user (you may be tested)

Desired Qualifications

*Eight (8) years minimum writing experience;
*Knowledge of local/state government business processes, preferably those focused on permitting, planning, enforcement, licensing, registration, and/or asset management.
*Understanding of how software technology and software sales interact in a competitive bid environment.
