- Vigil Volunteers are a group of caring compassionate volunteers was formed to provide a comforting presence to those patients in the final stage of their disease. The goal of the Vigil Volunteers is to ensure that "No patient shall die alone," and they consider it a special privilege to care for people at the end of their lives. - Bereavement Volunteers provide services for the family and friends for up to 13 months following the death of the loved one. At Aseracare Hospice our care does not stop with the patient. Grief is a normal reaction to the loss of a loved one, and this is a very difficult time for the survivors. Bereavement Volunteers are needed to assist family members after the death of a loved one for emotional support purposes.
We are also looking for volunteers in other areas:
- Office Assistant Volunteers are needed to assist the staff, volunteer coordinator, bereavement coordinator, social worker, administration support team, medical records, and other staff. Office Assistant Volunteers share their talents by working in the business office-making copies, filing, sorting, etc.
- Public speakers make presentations to clubs, churches and other organizations on numerous topics related to terminal illness, grief, death and dying as part of the Speaker's Bureau.

Local physicians are participating in a research study that will help determine if an investigational medication can control your heartburn related to GERD.
If you have GERD related heartburn that is controlled by taking medication twice a day, you may qualify for this study.
If you qualify, you will receive study care and study medication at no cost. Financial compensation for time and travel may be provided
Interested applicants must participate in an interview process and a site visit which will enable the Catholic Worker Community and the applicant to mutually discern acceptance into the Catholic Worker community. Spanish competency is not a requirement, but would be extremely helpful. Applicants must be willing to cook, clean, and maintain the house in good order.

It takes most women less than 10 minutes to complete this simple point-and-click survey. There is no compensation offered for completing the survey, however, your time and effort will contribute to answering important questions about individuals in society.
This study will evaluate the effects of Nattokinase on blood levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP)—a marker of inflammation strongly associated with cardiovascular disease—in individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease. It involves having blood drawn at baseline, taking one dose of Nattokinase, then having blood drawn again at 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours after ingestion of the Nattokinase. The blood collected will then be tested for CRP.
Participants will receive all study supplements and testing performed at no cost, and will be compensated $100 for the entire study. CRP results will be provided to participants upon request.
Participants must:
Have at least 3 of the following risk factors for Cardiovascular Disease
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Overweight
- Family history of heart disease
- Physically inactive
- Current smoker
- Male/Post-Menopausal Female
Be Age 18-65
Speak English fluently
Not currently be taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, fish oil, anti-coagulants, anti-platelet drugs, or anti-histamines
Not currently be taking any other prescription medication.
Willing to avoid soy foods for one week before the study and during the study
Not be participating in any other clinical trials

Most importantly, volunteers provide the sense of community at YEAH!. They work with an experienced supervisor who is always on site. Volunteers who are at the shelter the same evening every week come to regard themselves as a team. Those with irregular schedules meet new people.

Parents and their teenagers are needed for a study that explores how people think and process different kinds of emotional information.
The study takes place in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. You and your teenager would participate in interviews, and your teenager would do some activities on a computer, and even have a noninvasive scan taken of his/her brain.
Eligible families will receive up to $50/hour for their time. The study would last from 2-6 hours over the course of two visits and a 9 month follow up. We will schedule the sessions around your availability (daytime, evenings, or weekends are all fine).
To be eligible for this study, the teenager must:

** have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder within the past 6-9 months

Living with peripheral neuropathic pain (PNP) can be unpredictable and agonizing. You never know when it's going to strike, or how many times you'll have to deal with intensely painful sensations on a daily basis. If you experience pain when you touch something that shouldn't hurt, or if you have exaggerated pain when you touch something that should only cause a little pain, you may have PNP with mechanical hypersensitivity.
Although current pain relievers can often help relieve those symptoms, new treatment options are still needed today.
That's why local doctors are currently conducting GRIZZLY, a medical research study evaluating an investigational pain medication for PNP with mechanical hypersensitivity.
To pre-qualify for the GRIZZLY study, you must:
*Be 18-80 years of age AND
*Be experiencing painful symptoms due to peripheral neuropathic pain associated with mechanical hypersensitivity for at least three months or up to five years
Qualified Participants will receive study medication as well as study-related medical evaluations and tests at no cost. Reimbursement for time and travel may also be provided.

The purpose of the study is to test how safe and helpful an investigational drug called darapladib is in preventing coronary artery plaque from rupturing, which in turn may lead to a decrease in death, heart attack, and stroke in people with coronary heart disease. Participants in the study will continue taking medications already prescribed by their doctor for treatment of their coronary heart disease.

Dinner cooks deliver meals by 5:00 p.m. after they have prepared them at home, at their church, or other facility. Working with a group can help reduce the effort and the cost. One Brick (www.onebrick.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides support to other local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. This enables people to get
involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.
When we finish each volunteer project, we gather as a group at a local bar or restaurant for food, drinks and the opportunity to continue to get to know each other. This helps to create a really fun social outlet as part of your volunteer experience.

About MedShare: MedShare recovers surplus medical supplies and equipment that are no longer needed in the U.S. and redistributes them to healthcare facilities that serve the poor throughout the world. MedShare's been in operation for ten years in Atlanta and has shipped over 425 container loads of supplies to 74 countries. Their West Coast facitility in San Leandro opened in 2008.
One Brick will be helping to build a computerized inventory of donated supplies so that hospitals and clinics that serve the poor around the world can order what they need.
Volunteers will sort donated medical supplies into barrels of similar items. The barrels are then sorted down to boxes of the exact same item. Those boxes are then entered into a computerized inventory.
Other Event Info: You will be working in a warehouse, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
At FSSBA we do everything we can to help our clients create a healthy, secure environment for their entire family--children and parents alike. Our Sponsor-A-Family program gives donors the opportunity to provide for the specific needs of one or more families.

Bicycle Repair Volunteer Description
Bicycle repair volunteers help repair donated bikes that would be either sold, earned, or used for our field trips. This support is crucial for our ongoing success!
You're also welcome to come during our community shop hours and help other people fix their bikes.
Skills
Able to interact positively with a diverse group of people.
A good understanding of bicycle maintenance, and a desire to contribute to a community based bike shop.
Be available during some of our open shop hours: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-6pm, and Saturdays from 11-5pm.

MORE ABOUT WHO WE ARE: Cycles of Change APC is a friendly non-profit community bicycle shop which opened in June 2006. It's mission is to empower local communities by providing outstanding recycled bicycle services in a safe, thriving and creative community space. Services include used bike sales, youth and adult job training, bicycle field trips, a community do-it-together repair shop, volunteer opportunities, and much more! Since opening two years ago, over 1600 bikes have been donated, hundreds of bikes have been sold and earned by youth and adults, and hundreds of people have participated in our programs!

We will be operating in the Vallejo, Fairfield and Vacaville areas. Although there can never be too many volunteers, they are so very needed in Vallejo!!!
There's many different things a volunteer can do. Whether you can be a foster mom for cats waiting to be chosen at one of our adoption places, or perhaps help with transporting when we have our monthly spay/neuter clinic, there's a variety of things, you choose what suits you. A little time, or alot of time. It doesn't need to be too much. What ever you can do is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Local language school in need of Language Exchange Partners for their wonderful students. If you are a native speaker of English and enjoy learning about other cultures, please send us an email! We currently have Japanese and Korean students looking for language partners. We ask that you commit to one hour/week for at least one month. You will speak for 1/2 hour (or longer) in English and 1/2 hour (or longer) in the target language (Japanese/Korean). We also have other languages available soon! Participants are needed for The Power Study, a clinical research study of an investigational study drug that may reduce your chance of breaking a bone, a common risk of osteoporosis:

·Had your menstrual period five or more years ago
·Have never broken a hip
Eligibility will depend on a range of criteria.
Study participants will receive study-related drug and medical care at no charge.
We are looking for talented cheerleaders, preferably with some tumbling experience. Dancers will get the chance to showcase their skills!
We are a community-oriented team, aiming to cheer at local events and gigs. We will also be conditioning for Competitive Cheerleading, so bring your best efforts to the audition and show us what you've got!
Auditions will be held some time in January (possibly later if we need to recruit more people). Have your hair pulled back and a short cheer memorized. Be ready to learn a cheer with the squad.

Partner Services: These volunteers will build and maintain relationships with external partners to coordinate information, exchange, planning and resources for disaster preparedness and response.
Disaster Action Team: The Disaster Action Team is the first response to any request for Red Cross disaster assistance. Members respond to single and multiple family residence fires, floods, and other natural or
man-made disasters.
Recruiter Coordinator Disaster Volunteer: This volunteer is responsible for recuitment, retention, and record keeping of all disaster volunteers. This position can be shared between four different volunteers as part of a CDV Team.
Financial Statistics: Maintains records of all disaster expenditures via CAC & DO's, including responsibility for providing monthly reports to Disaster Managre and Leads of related financial activity of DAT and Client Services related expenditures. Keeps records of all CAC cards & DO forms assigned to volunteers and staff.
Community Events: Assisting the American Red Cross in providing visability of its programs and sevices in the community. To create, build and support community partnerships and events, while ensuring proper representation of the Red Cross in the community.

In conjunction with those needs Playland is always expanding and rebuilding its 25 exhibits and we’re in need of skilled people to help with that. Anyone with previous carpentry experience or art skills would be of great help to us, and we would love to have you on board.
The hours this week when we need helpers are: Wednesday (Veterans' Day), Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Normally we need help Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday during the days, but some projects such as the juke box sorting of music or the art work can be done Monday through Friday. On weekends we host several events a day and there would be shifts (morning, afternoon, and night) that would be assigned to each volunteer. This study will evaluate the effects of Nattokinase on blood levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP)—a marker of inflammation strongly associated with cardiovascular disease—in individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease. It involves having blood drawn at baseline, taking one dose of Nattokinase, then having blood drawn again at 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours after ingestion of the Nattokinase. The blood collected will then be tested for CRP.
Participants will receive all study supplements and testing performed at no cost, and will be compensated $100 for the entire study. CRP results will be provided to participants upon request.
Participants must:
Have at least 3 of the following risk factors for Cardiovascular Disease
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Overweight
- Family history of heart disease
- Physically inactive
- Current smoker
- Male/Post-Menopausal Female
Be Age 18-65
Speak English fluently
Not currently be taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, fish oil, anti-coagulants, anti-platelet drugs, or anti-histamines
Not currently be taking any other prescription medication.
Willing to avoid soy foods for one week before the study and during the study
Not be participating in any other clinical trials
