Incline Village is wonderful in the winter. Here's why:

HIT THE SLOPES!
The house is within a half hour or so (depending on weather and traffic) of all the major north shore ski areas: Squaw Valley, Alpine, Northstar, Homewood, Mount Rose. There is an excellent sledding area up the Mount Rose highway (which runs to Reno, about 45 minutes); it’s on your left, right near the summit, and takes about 15 minutes to get to. This is also a staging area for snowmobiles (across the highway on the right, away from the sleds—so bring ’em if you got ’em). Finally, don’t overlook our own backyard resort, Diamond Peak. It’s about 10 minutes, door-to-door, from our house, down 28 a couple of miles, at Country Club Drive. It has excellent, albeit not many, runs, with good variety (groomers, bumps, trees, terrain park) for all skill levels, including expert (great on a powder day). It’s rarely crowded, and there’s a high-speed quad to the top, so we typically get more “vert” in a day there than at other places, even Squaw, since lines are never long. The terrain park is a good one, say our snowboarders. Diamond Peak is also quite inexpensive, especially compared with the large resorts. Lake views from the intermediate-level ridge run and the mountain café are truly fantastic, maybe unrivalled. Beginner instruction can be found at all areas, including Diamond Peak, but is especially good at Tahoe Donner, outside Truckee, about 45 minutes from the house. They have broad, beginner/intermediate slopes and a nice terrain park; it’s inexpensive, and almost never crowded.

GOOD EATS!
Austin's, on Country Club and not far from our house, is a favorite local place for down-home cooking and jumbo cocktails. Be sure to make reservations, as it's often crowded with locals (always a good sign). Across the street from Austin's, the Hyatt at Incline has a restaurant on the water, Lone Eagle Grill, that is beautiful (think mountain-lodge deluxe), and the food is fine. It’s down Lakeshore Drive, about a mile and a half from the house. If you want to sit on their outside terrace on a sunny afternoon, plan to get there early. Nearby Kings Beach features Caliente! an excellent, neo-New-Mexico restaurant, with unique, really delicious food (the sopapillas for dessert are incredible). Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay is probably the best--and for sure the most fun--restaurant on the north shore, about 20 minutes' drive from the house, and well worth it. In the same area, Spindleshanks is also good, and a bit closer. The Cabin in Kings Beach is good for breakfast. There is only one good pizza place in Incline (in our opinion) and that’s Mofo’s, in Christmas Tree Village center, on your left, heading for Raley’s.

SCREEN TIME
For movies, you can either go to Incline, Kings Beach, or Tahoe City for funky, but charming little theaters. (Kings Beach only takes cash, so be prepared.) There’s limited DVD rental in Incline at Raley's, and a big-screen TV at the house. All three of our TVs have DVD players, and we keep a couple dozen movies in stock at all times.

NIGHTLIFE
Crystal Bay, on the Nevada side about four miles form our house, is home to several nightclubs and casinos, and then there's the Hyatt down the road a couple of miles. It's really not our thing, so we leave it to others to describe. Suffice to say, all these establishments are near our house, and TART, the free transit service, stops right in front of our home.

The kitchen is fully equipped and the favorite room of some renters. Besides the customary refrigerator and gas stove/oven, there is also a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, blender, small food processor, rice cooker as well as general cookware and dishes. Filtered water is provided at the tap.

There are 2 bedrooms in the cottage. The main bedroom has a queen bed and the smaller bedroom has a twin day bed with a pull out twin trundle bed. The garden house on the deck has a double bed with memory foam mattress. All bed linens, pillows, comforters and towels are provided.

Further amenities in the home include a washer and dryer, Direct TV satellite television with HBO, a DVD player and VHS player. There is a library of videotapes and DVDs as well as shelves with books for those more interested in reading. A stereo with CD player is available and a collection of CDs. There is also a supply of games for entertainment.

Outside “Far Reaches’” front door you’ll find a flagstone patio area, a wonderful spot to sip coffee in the early morning. A corridor leads past a gas barbeque grill where you can cook dinner or even all of your meals. Further along, the flagstone leads to a large outdoor shower area. The shower has three heads and is a main attraction for guests no matter what the temperature outside.

The property’s large redwood deck wraps around half the cottage and is covered with teak furniture for lounging and outdoor living as well as dining. Outdoor heat lamps help keep the area cozy on crisp evenings. A fireplace chiminea and fountain provide a lovely ambiance. Also on the deck you’ll find the garden house, imported from England, which serves as a third bedroom.

Walk through the Balinese door and along the bamboo-laden pathway to the yard area. Pass by the stone temple gates where you’ll come across the Meditation Pavilion, a cozy covered bed with pillows and a perfect spot to quietly read a book or reflect. Further down in the yard is a small pond filled with water plants and koi fish. A fountain made of bamboo can be turned on at will. Week 51 (Dec 18th to 25th ) is an ocean front unit- I dont beleive any other condo or timeshare on Kaanapali is any closer to the actual sand & ocean than these few ocean front units at the Marriott. See actual picture below of the view from our unit. Week 52 is a guaranteed Ocean View unit- Both weeks 51 & 52 are the same unit layout, just different view category & location within the building. Our family usually stays one week in the ocean front unit, then on day 7, switch rooms down the hall to the ocean view when we stay both weeks. These units/weeks are in the original Marriott building, close to the 3.5 acre super pool. I am offering the weeks seperately at: $3,000 the week of the 18th to the 25th, $3,500 a night for the week of the 25th to the 1st of January . Or both weeks for $6,000- ( this is cheap, check around for these dates at a comparable hotel ) ( ** Marriott had 3 rooms available to rent during these same weeks at 400 a night for a 1 bedroom- these are two bedrooms ) Comparable rooms @ hotels like the Sheraton & the Hyatt go for 600, 800 or even 1300 a night in the holiday season- call & check for yourself, they are almost impossible to get - THIS IS A GREAT DEAL ) The Marriott on Kaanapali stands far above the rest of any other hotel or condo on the island, you have all the amenities available on the grounds, the finest dining , Marriotts top notch & friendly service, by far the best pool, a 5 minute walk to Whalers Village- While everyone else has to get in thier car & drive to shopping & dining- your a 5 minute stroll down the beautiful beach walk path to shopping, dining & activities. Even closer in are Long's Drugs and Safeway, as well as Masses's Pastries (which rivals any Parisian patisserie), Saul's Delicatessen and the original Peet's Coffee, just to name a few. With the closure of Cody's on Telegraph, Black Oak Books is arguably Berkeley's best bookstore, and is a ten-minute walk from the house.     Loved the log cabin, first time we have stayed on the West Shore on recommendation from friends in San Francisco – it felt like Tahoe 20 years ago. We preferred it to the South Lake Tahoe & North Lake Tahoe areas which have grown “too” fast. SnowMen building and Snow-Shoeing at the creek were the best!

Homewood Ski Resort is one of our favorite ski locations and being so close we didn’t have to rush in the morning to get to the slopes – we even came back for lunch one day.     3 years new 3BR+Loft/2BA log house & 2BR/1BA cabin on McKinney Creek, on the quiet & rustic West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Our log home and cabin have been custom built with hand-peeleld 14 inch Engleman Spruce logs by craftsmen from British Columbia. Property has convenient car access, is heavily wooded and close to all conveniences.

    House and cabin have open floor plans with log beams and vaulted ceilings, Monterey Pine paneling, Mexican tile and hardwood floors. Both are decorated in a Tahoe style to compliment the beautiful natural wood interiors. Large main deck and private loft deck overlook McKinney Creek which runs year-round. Vermont-Castings cast iron stoves with glass doors heat the house and cabin and all bedrooms have thermostat controlled baseboard electric heaters.

    House sleeps 9+ in 3 bedrooms + loft. Upstairs master bedroom has one queen, loft has one queen futon, downstairs bedroom #1 has one queen, bedroom #2 has one full and twin bunk beds. Cabin sleeps 5+ with a queen bed in bedroom #1, bedroom #2 has a full and twin bunk beds. All beds have pillows, blankets and comforters, bring your own bed linens and shower & kitchen towels or we can provide them for an additional fee.

    Private 2 acres leads down to year-round McKinney Creek with room for private winter snow play. Lake Tahoe is a short 1/2 mile walk or drive to the Chambers Landing beach & pier. Homewood Ski Resort (skihomewood.com -with Tahoe’s best lake views) is 1 mile from the house and cabin. The Tahoma Market PDQ is ¾ mile south and Tahoe City is 12 minutes north with shops, grocery stores and restaurants.

    Close favorite spots include: Chambers Landing Beach/Pier, Meeks Bay, the West Shore Blvd Bike Path, Sunnyside Restaurant, Obexer’s public boat launch & dock, Sugar Pine Point, DL Bliss and Emerald Bay state parks. Homewood Ski Resort is 3 minutes from the cabin, Squaw Valley (1968 Olympic Site) and Alpine Meadows ski resorts are 15 minutes north. North & South Shore casinos are 30 minutes away.

    House & cabin rented together: $450 p/night, $210 cleaning, $500 refundable security deposit.

    2BR cabin is $190 p/nite, cleaning fee is $105, and refundable security deposit is $200.
