Bay Ship & Yacht is a modern shipyard located in Alameda, CA on the waterfront of San Francisco Bay. We provide drydocking and repair services to most commercial and government vessels on the Bay, including tugboats, ferries, Coast Guard cutters, cruise ships, pilot boats, yachts, and marine vessels of all kinds. The great variety of marine vessels drydocked at our shipyard provides challenging and interesting work for a range of crafts.
A specialty at Bay Ship & Yacht is the construction and reconstruction of historic and traditional vessels, in wood or steel, sail or steam, any tonnage. Past projects include a reconstruction of the 170’ three-masted lumber schooner CA Thayer for the National Park Service; a complete rebuild of the scow schooner Alma; construction of the 120’ brig Niagara; a major refit of 307’ bark Balclutha; & recaulking the USS Constitution.
Bay Ship & Yacht also builds modern yachts and commercial vessels, including high speed, light weight craft in wood and composites. We recently completed a high speed, deep vee cruiser in light weight wood construction.
We are seeking a Marine Carpenter/Boatbuilder experienced in wood and composites, structural and joinery. We are also seeking those with woodworking experience and the capacity and desire to learn the marine carpentry trade. Those who are at an apprentice level will begin as a beginning tradesman.
