URGENT: Brown Tabby Alfie Needs Rescue ASAP from Shelter (berkeley)

Alfie is a brown tabby that is at risk of euthanasia at the Berkeley Animal Care shelter.

UPDATE: The shelter wants to euthanize Alfie on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Alfie came in to the shelter very thin. He was left in front of the shelter. When he arrived at the shelter he
would seek attention but then get cranky because he wasn't feeling well. Probably did not have any food
for awhile before he was left at the shelter. He has started to eat and now enjoys having his head scratched.
Alfie is active and loves to chase a s string, and use the cardboard scratcher. His teeth are white and clean.
He obviously belonged to someone at some time because he is already neutered.
Alfie was estimated to be 8 years old, but may look younger after gaining weight. He is a small size cat.
He deserves a chance to live out his years. He should go to an experienced cat person.

For anyone who honestly believes all of these rescues are trying to make a profit you are out of your mind. There may be a few bad seeds out there as there is with anything, but for the few bad seeds there are a TON of legitimate rescues who's adoption fees go into the care of all of these animals. And let me say this IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ADOPTION FEE THROUGH A RESCUE THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE ADOPTING A PET!!!!! There is a lot of expense that goes into have a pet, they become a part of the family not just some object of entertainment whenever you so please. I have 4 cats, 1 rabbit, and 1 cat that I am fostering that I rescued extremely malnourished and have been working with a local rescue to re-habilitate into a healthy cat that is adoptable to a family willing to take in an 8 to 9 year old cat. I spent anywhere from $150 to $200 in food and supplies for the 4 cats and 1 rabbit that I have because I refuse to feed them anything but quality grain free food, even if you buy a cheap food you are looking at monthly costs of $50 to $100 a month to care for a cat or dog. Don't forget you have to buy cat litter, toys, etc... plus any vet visits that may come up. So let me reiterate IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ADOPTION FEE THROUGH A RESCUE THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE ADOPTING A PET!!!! It kills me that people complain about paying an adoption fee and are so ignorant to think that these rescues have it so easy when it comes to expenses, an adoption fee is the LEAST you can do for these rescues who put their time, heart, and soul into rescuing and taking care of these animals so that they can have a chance to be adopted into a loving, forever home with someone who will care for them and treat them like family for the rest of their lives!!!

Some people just make me sick!!!

Leni is a Dalmation mixed with pit bull, and is about 8 months old. He weighs around 40 pounds is almost full grown. He is expected to get no more than 50 pounds. He usually plays well with other dogs, but needs to be the only dog in his home as he doesn't like to share. He is very sweet and cuddly, very well behaved for the most part. He knows Come, sit, stay, and walks beautifully on a leash. He enjoys getting some excercise, but is also very couch potatoe, and will literally lay in your lap for hours if you let him. He will not be a dog that needs to run miles and miles every day to get their energy out. He doesnt nuisance bark, but does well at alerting you to the presence of strangers at your door step. He does get a bit sunburnt when in the sun for long periods of time, and you can use 50 SPF no tears sunscreen on him if you plan to take him hiking or camping or something to keep him from getting too much sun. He would do well in a house with children, as he is very laid back and will let you do just about anything to him....even dress him up in clothes with sunglasses! He may be trainable with cats, if given time and training with a proper introduction. Leni is not a dog that would do well at a dog park, as there is too much excitement for him there and he can get too worked up- but he would love smaller playdates with one or two other dogs! Come take a look at these beautiful green eyes and you will fall in love for sure.

He comes with a dog bed, his sunglasses, a sweater, collar and a T-shirt for him to wear. His adoption fee is $250, and he is fixed, microchipped, UTD on shots, dewormed and has been deflead.

Colleen is a darling girl that weighs 60 pounds. She is full grown, and about 1.5 years old. She is fixed, microchipped, UTD on shots, has been dewormed and deflead. She gets along excellent with dogs of all sizes and temperaments....to the point that I have never seen her involve herself in a scuffle if other dogs are having a disagreement. We believe she is a Kelpie mixed with smooth coated collie. She is very sweet and playful, and loves to give kisses. She knows sit, come and off, and is highly trainable. She would love a home with kids above the age of toddler...she is playful enough where she might accidentally knock over a toddler. She has shown interest in cats but no agression, and we feel she can be placed with a cat at her home with the proper introduction. She needs some training, but will be a darling, wonderful family dog for some lucky new owners. Her adoption fee is $200. She would do excellent as a second dog in a home.

Free to a good home.... 1 year old female terrier mix needs a kind loving home. Very cute mixed mutt...appears to be a mix between a rat terrier and poddle??She doesn't shed much. I've had her for about 4 months, but a neighbor who can't seem to mind her own business is causing problems, and threatening to make my life a living hell if I don't get rid of my doggie. (I'd much rather get rid of the neighbor, but moving and telling the neighbor to shut up is not an option right now.) The dog is really good with kids, and gets her butt kicked daily by the cat.
I've been crating her while I'm not home, and I take her outside. She is still learning not to go in the house, but it would be much easier if she had a real yard to go in. She is microchipped and spayed. She has had all her shots. She has a great personality, and would really love a great home besides mine. NO LABS or people looking to do harm to this pooch need respond.

Kingsley is a Papillon mix boy, to our best guess, of about 2 years old. He is fixed, UTD on shots, deflead and dewormed. His adoption fee is $100. He is very energetic and playful, and bonds deeply to his caretakers. He loves to be carried around and to sit in laps, and bounces off the walls when he is excited. He is potty trained, not destructive in the house. Kingsley does well with cats, and can do fine with small dogs, but CAN NOT go to a home with a large dog in it. Large dogs scare him, and when he is scared he barks at them...which in turn makes the other dog nervous. He would do best in a home with no kids under the age of 8. (He weighs about 15 pounds and is full grown.) If you would like to meet him, mail me or give me a call - his rescue would love to see him get his forever home. The Oakland Animal Shelter currently has many rabbits waiting for someone with whom they can start a glorious, new life!

The adoption fee for a rabbit already neutered/spayed and micro-chipped is only $35. All of our rabbits have been fixed unless noted.

A rabbit that you wish to adopt that is not fixed (indicated by an (x) next to their name below) will be scheduled for surgery at a local clinic where you will pick him/her up and pay to the clinic $85.

We highly recommend meeting a pair of bunnies already bonded. They will keep each other company when you are away during the day.

Please bring all immediate family members living in your household to meet the bunnies and your driver's license upon adopting.

All our bunnies are indoor friends; they cannot live outdoors. They would definitely enjoy some supervised outdoor playing time though! Pics/videos of the rabbits are taken outside during their supervised playtime.

If a group is actually making a profit rescuing then rehoming animals please come forward. It takes just a few animals with special health problems to cost a group thousands of dollars. They are also very difficult to adopt out and so are the plain looking or ones with behavior problems that stay in your foster homes for years taking up space and rescources. Probably thirty percent or more of animals in groups and shelters fit into this category. Once you have s/n, vaccinated, tested, dewormed, deflead, bought food for that animal, the adoption fee rarely covers what you have spent on that animal, even if it is already fixed. You would have to adopt it out right away and hardly spent anything on vet care. Groups and shelters are slashing adoption fees which means they are having even less money to pay for things.

If you've ever done rescue you know how easy it is get in over your head financially. It is absurd to think this is a good way to make some money.

Nowadays, with the recession (more like modern day depression) it is very hard to get people to donate. So where does the money come from? Who is going to take care of all these abandoned animals in shelters and on the street? Unless people give a little, ten bucks would mean a great deal to us, there will be NOBODY to help and the shelters will just keep on killing them.

Hello there! Me and my family are looking for a new addition to add into our small family. We are both extremely responsible. We have a 7 month old son who LOVES dogs. He is not rough or mean to animals. Most of the time he doesn't even try to pet them, he just loves to watch them and laugh. We are looking for a smaller dog (Under 15-20lbs). We plan on bringing the new addition EVERYWHERE they can possibly go with us.

We do not have tons of money to BUY a dog but we do have money to support and help you with shots, supplies, ect that you got our puppy started with.

We are looking for a Boston Terrier, French bulldog, Bichon Frise or a Shih Tzu. OR ANY MIX OF THE LISTED. Male or female, does not matter. We plan on spaying/fixing our baby as soon as they are old enough.

This is a two year old rose breasted cockatoo. If you have ever attempted to buy this bird they are quite costly, unfortunately I need some money because I have recently lost my job. I am trying to get 1,250 (or best offer) dollars for this bird but this also includes all necessary items for the bird. We have purchased a very large white cage to encase it (which was also expensive), lots of toys, food, etc. for the pet...so this will be included in your purchase. The bird loves attention and if you say dance dance dance, the bird will do a little jig. I believe its a boy (but that's not a guarantee, cause I haven't checked the goods lol)

Myra the Dog seeks temporary home (Bay Area)

Myra's owner must go away for a while. They do not allow dogs where Myra's owner will be staying. Myra is a beloved pet, but the judge is ordering her owner into a residential rehabilitation program in Los Angeles of at least 120 days. I really can't tell you much more about the owner, but the owner has a great deal of anxiety at being parted from her. Myra is a beautiful short-haired medium-sized dog. A white lab sharpei mix according to the vet. She is 12 years old but she acts like she's five. She does not get along well with other other animals. When she goes for walks she looks under cars and tries to hunt, she digs holes outside with the gophers, goes after squirrels. She wants to fight other dogs, she's aggressive. She got along with the niece's dog after being walked separately for a while. She's really smart, she's protective, a good watch dog But if I could venture to say the owner is over-protective of her, and has been keeping Myra in a house without the companionship of her fellow canines. The owner is losing house, business, friends, community, and being plunged deeply into debt by this twist of fate. Will you help Myra?

I'm looking to re-home Chauncey (Billups), my Jack-Russell mix- he's about one year old, 15 pounds, completely and PERFECTLY house-trained, does not bark, adorable, fun to be with, and a HUGE cuddle-bug. Some tricks he knows include Speak, Stay, Down, Sit, Dance (he goes on his hind legs and jumps around), and Paw-Shaking (when you say, "Nice to meet you"). Chauncey does not bite, he has a sweet temper, and he loves to be held (sometimes even like a baby). The reason why I cannot keep him is because I'm a college-student and pretty much struggling... also, it's not fair to keep a dog cooped up in the house during classes, and he needs a nice loving forever home.

Chauncey is NOT neutered, but it may be a good idea to neuter him if you are considering it (although he is already mellow and non-humping).

As you can imagine, this is VERY HARD FOR ME- I have fought to keep him ever since he was a puppy, and I love him dearly. I WILL NOT LET HIM GO TO JUST ANY HOME- you must be a nice pet owner, preferably have owned dogs before or have learned how to, and must have enough time to give him during the week. Sometimes I take him to the Ohlone Dog Park, so it would be nice if you could walk him or if you have a large backyard. He would be good for a family as he is very gentle and loves people (my friend took him to a nursing home and everyone loved him). To make sure that he does not go just any home, there will be a re-homing fee of 300 (which shouldn't matter if you are serious, because all the food/toys/treats/supplies I am providing already cost a lot in it of itself- they are worth about 200 total).

ANYONE who spent their own affection, time and money to better an animals life is generally a good place to adopt from. You will get your "tax write-off" in the satisfaction from changing a life, and in the love and affection you will give and get from that animal.

Do some people "rescue" just to supplement their income? Of course. Do your research, visit lots of different "rescues" and learn what questions to ask, and what an average adoption fee should be.

Most important, GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING! If you find the animal of your dreams, who cares about a tax write-off, or what you paid for your pet!!! In the lifetime of your animal, that first fee is the least of what you'll pay, and completely inconsequential in the terms of the loyality and memories you're pet will give you!

I think you are trying to help the cause of rescue but you are misinformed and posting incorrect information. An
adoption fee is for all intents and purposes tantamount to a purchase. You are receiving "goods or services" for
the fee. "Goods" apply to dogs, cats, birds or whatever. Some rescues do call the adoption fee a "donation" but
that is incorrect. Some adopters write "donation" on their adoption fee checks; they can do whatever they wish
at tax time but it would be without a donation acknowledgment letter from my group. If someone adopts
a dog from us and decides to give us an amount in excess of the adoption fee then ONLY that portion is a
tax-deductible donation. If you write a check to your church and receive nothing in return it is a donation. If you
purchase a ticket to a benefit, only a portion of that purchase is a donation and therefore deductible. This is
usually stated very clearly in the marketing pitch for the event or in the post-purchase letter.

Legitimate rescues keep careful records to show what portion of income is for donations, adoption fees, sales
of items at rescue events, proceeds from fundraisers etc. The breakdown of these income centers is required
on the IRS form 990.

Most likely you are getting flagged because they think you are a breeder posing as a rescuer. Can you work with a rescue group and get them placed under their group? Ads that mention a rescue group usually don't get flagged. I would think a group would let you place them under their group especially if they can get the fee. I am trying to help my six year old cat who has been suffering from a terrible case of stomatitis since he was about a year old. He has had some teeth pulled (and bled severely needed to go to the ER is was so bad) he has had the depo shots occaisionally which I hate and don't give him much relief. He is on a regular dry/canned diet. There was a website on stomatitis written by someone who did a lot of research into stomatitis and this person said diet can cure many cases of it. Has anyone had success with curing this horrible condition with diet or any other means?

Diego is 12 years old, a purebred Dalmation, one of the most elegantly beautiful dogs ever. We love him, and rescued him ourselves many years ago from an uncaring home. Now, we are heartbroken that we simply cannot care for him any more -- our life has taken some frightening turns for the worse and we are forced to make some very, very hard choices. Diego has always had the idiosyncrasies of a purebred, with sensitive skin and some neurotic habits, but with loving care he got through all of it healthy and happy. Now he's suffering from overwhelming allergic skin reactions and has been experiencing chronic diarrhea and is losing weight. We've done our best to find the right food balance, but without any luck so far, and -- seriously -- we can't afford taking him to the vet, which I believe he really needs!

He needs help, and as much as it hurts to admit it, we can't help him any more. We're financially at risk (are about to be forced to move) and I am suffering from a chronic disease that is not improving. We hope and pray that there is someone out there in better shape than we are who could provide a loving and supportive home to this noble dog for the few remaining years of his life... it would be better than euthanasia (which we can't afford anyway).

If you could help, or know of someone else who might, please contact us! Please don't judge us too harshly -- this is a difficult choice to make -- but it has become clear that Diego would be better off with some who could care for him properly than to sink with us. We're hoping against hope that there is a win/win solution out there somewhere...

Meet Houdini, an absolutely gorgeous flame-point Siamese mix kitty with beautiful cream-colored fur, reddish tips and vibrant blue eyes (although he kept closing his eyes for pictures, so you will have to come see him in person.) As difficult as it is to believe, someone dumped this wonderful cat, and he was found living on the streets. Houdini was so named because he kept getting past the screen door into the kitchen, which was supposed to be off-limits to the foster cats!

Houdini is an extraordinarily sweet and affectionate companion, greeting all visitors in the hope of getting some attention. If you forget to pet him, he will meow or rub on your legs to let you know! He gets along fine with the other cats; we are not sure if he has ever been exposed to dogs, but might learn to get along with a calm, cat-friendly dog if properly introduced. He can be a bit too exuberant for very small children, but could be great with cat-savvy older kids (8+).

The vet says Houdini is only about 1 year old. He�s been neutered, tested FIV/FELV negative, dewormed, de-flead, and he is current on his vaccinations. He does a great job using the litterbox! There is a tax-deductible donation to the Feral Cat Foundation, which helped get him off the street and provided all of his medical care, so that they may continue their work with homeless cats. I have given lessons on him before and he is a great horse to learn on. He has experience in competitive trail, dressage, western pleasure, gymkhanna, packing and endurance, but he gets bored doing the same thing too much. He has lots of personality, loves people, kids, dogs. He is quite bomb proof but is not an armchair! He would be perfect for the older intermediate, perhaps someone coming back to it after the kids have grown and gone. I am also willing to teach someone who wants to get into horses for the first time, if you are willing to learn! However, I can't let anyone take him out alone until I am sure you and he are compatible :)

Glory got her name as she arrived from a Sacto area shelter just prior to Labor Day weekend.

She is about one and a half years old and is very social and friendly with both dogs and people.
She rides well in the car, is getting better on her leash training and is adored by the staff where she was fully vetted, including microchip.

She does seem to be housebroken and would just need the usual refresher in a new environment when she is adopted.
Glory would probably do best in a cat free household as she doesn't mind a rousing game of cat and er.....dog..... according to the vet staff who cared for her.

The Oakland Animal Shelter has many dogs under 20 pounds who are waiting for their new homes. Please come and visit them at 1101 29th Ave in Oakland if you want to adopt a small size dog.
We currently have many dogs from 7 pounds to 20 pounds and they are changing constantly. As dogs get adopted we move more small dogs in.

KUDOS TO YOU!!! I have been looking for a puppy for some time now, and can't believe the "rescue" groups flipping dogs like crazy on here. Rehoming fees are a joke. Completely. I see your point in how inexpensive the vaccine shots are (about $10 per immunization), and the rescue groups DO NOT PAY for the spay and neuter of these animals when getting from shelters. Then you have to listen to the rescue groups, trying to defend themselves by the time, money and "love i give" to the animals. Excuse me while i choke a minute, it was hard getting that lie out. When you volunteer at a hospital, you dont ask for a paycheck at the end of the month. Thats ridiculous. How can you expect a "payment" from your volunteering as a foster home? The funny thing to me is, i've offered many of these so called rescue organizations a gift card to petsmart instead of cash for a rehoming fee. Every single time i've been told "unfortunately, we can not take this", however, the "fee" is supposed to be buying food, supplies and things. I guess you can't get food, toys, dog shampoo and treats at petsmart.......

you know who i feel bad for? The animals. They are already shocked by home to home moving, from a shelter to a foster home, back to a shelter. It just saddens me to see so many "pet lovers and foster parents" on here screaming at the breeders, when they are doing the exact same thing. Turning dogs for profit. Come to the realization that your VOLUNTEER rescue group is a for profit business (i dont care what crap the rescue directors told you) at the expense of the dogs. I have never volunteered for anything, expecting a payment in return. Now you can't go saying your a volunteer, then begin bitching about all the money and time you dish out...comes along with volunteering. Your high adoption or rehoming fees result in more dogs deaths than you really care to think about or realize. TO THE ONE REAL AND LIGIT RESCUE ORGANIZATION OUT THERE (I hope upon hope there is at least one good one in the bay), I say to you keep on going. I doubt, you are even on craigslist anyway. Shame on you.

There are currently 26 ads on craigslist of people looking to adopt a puppy or dog and the sad part is they won't even look at the ones offered on craigslist because of these horribly high fees. I couldn't understand, until i read an earlier post about people not having an extra few hundred dollars on hand. Thats totally true, not to mention the fact that all expenses of the new pet goes to the new owner. So, hundreds and hundreds of ads of dogs/cats/rabbits looking for a home, then you see ads for people LOOKING for pets to adopt. Something just doesn't add up....

I will board your medium to XL dog in my Concord home where he/she has full roam of my 4 bedrooms, the large fully fenced back yard, a trip or two around the neighborhood or to the dog park if that's ok.Your pooches will become part of the family while they are here, they are more than welcome to lounge on the couch, play with my medium size dog & with the toys in the yard that they will have 24 hour access to. The holidays can be expensive and I want to ease a little bit of the pinch of the holiday pocket and only charge $18 a night to board your pup here at my home. You obviously have never volunteered for a legitimate rescue organization. Most rescues reimburse their fosters for food, litter, etc. They cover the cost of vet care. The foster only provides a loving environment for the animal until it can get adopted.

And NO, not all the animals we pull from shelters are spayed/neutered. If the shelter knows a rescue is going to pull an animal, the do not spay/neuter it. We're lucky if the animal has even gotten shots from the shelter. Also, rescues are often asked to pull the animals that don't have a chance for adoption (injured/ill/didn't pass temperament test). Rescues pay a lot of money to nurse these animals back to health before adopting them out. Yes, we may get a few animals that are in good health and require minimal vetting, but the 'profit' made on those animals goes right back into vet bills for the others. I volunteer for a rescue that recently took in a momma cat with a badly broken leg (and her sick kittens). Momma cat's initial surgery cost $1500 and she goes in next week for a second surgery. Oh, and her adoption fee will only be $75 (HUGE profit there, right?). We also have an older dog who has needed several eye surgies and multiple visits for foxtails in his ears and feet. His vet bill is now almost $1000, and his adoption fee will still only be $125. I'm fostering a kitten with feline herpes virus in his eyes......his vet bills are at about $500 right now, and he still has another follow-up visit to go. His adoption fee will still only be $75.

So stop making accusations about how rescues make a huge profit - it just doesn't happen. Rescues and their fosters do an AWESOME job of taking in the animals that nobody wants and finding them great forever homes. If it weren't for all the great Bay Area rescues there would be thousands more animals being euthanized every year. THANK YOU to all the rescues and their volunteers for making a difference!

Katie & Agatha Christie were dumped on the streets, and had a rough life on their own for a while. In their foster home, the two have become best friends! They run around the kitchen wrestling, and then when they are tired they curl up to sleep together. Quite a sight to see! They would be a great choice to adopt together, for someone looking for a pair of kitties. They are both about 3 years old - still quite young and frisky, but past the constantly rambunctious kitten stage. ** Katie and Agatha have been waiting a very long time to find a home of their own, and hope the right person will come along soon. **

Katie is so beautiful with her soft brown tabby fur, white chest and feet. Her disposition is sweet and gentle. She can be a little shy at first, but she has made lots of progress in her foster home, and now often approaches visitors to greet them. She has the cutest habit of coming up to you and kneading ("making biscuits") with her paws on the floor. With this girl, a little patience will be rewarded with lots of love!

Agatha is a lovely black-and-white tuxedo kitty. She's a very affectionate cat; usually greets her foster mom at the door, rubbing against her legs, purring, and asking to be picked up. Agatha will make herself the center of attention in the home!

Katie & Agatha would prefer a relatively quiet home without small children. Other cats are OK as long as they aren�t too aggressive. Both kitties have been spayed, de-wormed, de-flead, and tested FIV/FELV negative. There is a tax-deductible adoption fee that goes back to the Feral Cat Foundation to provide medical care for other kitties in need. Due to economic pressures, we are moving and have to find a caring home for our sweet dog, Sakari. She is approx. 4 years old and we adopted her, with anticipation that we would be able to care for her for the long run. I lost my job and we are now forced to make some tough decisions about our pets.

She is believed to be a Siberian Husky/Malamute mix. She is very sweet but her original family did not do any training with her and she is a bit rambunctious. She NEEDS training. We have successfully trained her to "sit" but have not had the time to dedicate to much more. She is a beautiful, sweet dog and is very good, supervised, with our small children (ages 4 and 2) with no aggressive tendencies; however, she does not know her own strength and can easily knock you down. She needs someone or a family that can walk her daily and take the time to calm her spirit. We do have another dog (15 years old) that she adapted with easily.
She does shed. She is very loving. She just needs the right fit...possibly a trainer home?

We have all her papers. She has 2 microchips. She has been spayed. Her shots are all current as of March 2009.

We are asking a small re-homing fee of $50 to know that you are serious. The ideal candidate will have some room for her to run, practice good coat maintenance, lots of toys and goodies to keep her busy, as well as lots and lots of love.

Looking for a good home for our four year old chocolate lab. His name is Bubba and he is a very loving dog that needs more attention then he is getting in our home. He is great with kids and super friendly. We unfortunately don't have the time to give him the exercise and attention he needs and are in a financial pinch. We would love to find a dog lover(s) that would give him the home he deserves and it has been a very difficult decision to come to, but it is his best interest that we have in mind. 2 Adorable Kittens Are Ready For Homes (dublin / pleasanton / livermore)

These adorable kittens are named Sammy and Boomer. Both kittens were bottle fed from birth, they will be 8 weeks old on monday. Sammy is a cream colored female kitten and Boomer is a black calico male. Both kittens are very playful and curious. They are both eating hard food and are litter box trained. They have had a vet visit and are both healthy as well as been dewormed. Im asking a $25 rehoming fee each or $40 is someone would like to take them both. I would prefer for them to go together of course however its not a nessecity. I would like for these kittens to go to good and loving homes. If your intersted in taking home one of these adorable kittens or both feel free to e mail me with any questions or to see them. I am located in Livermore.

Kota; Female Catahoula Leopard Dog & Border Collie (Willing to transport in Northern CA)

Kota is a spayed & vaccinated female 1.5 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog and Border Collie mix, she was found a few weeks ago roaming the streets in Castro Valley. Kota was very underweight and seemed to have recently whelped pups. I've been fostering her for these past few weeks and it has been an incredible journey. I don't think Kota had ever been indoors before, she simply did not understand common boundaries! She wouldn't hesitate to jump on the kitchen counter or any other surface! But, the most amazing thing about this dog is her high level of intelligence. Kota learns everything the very first time you show her, no joke. Unlike other dogs, like my dogs and every other dog I've trained, Kota does not need repeated lessons, she seems to be able to hold on to the knowledge the very first time. I explained quite loudly and dramatically my discomfort with her actions at first, and after the first 2 weeks I realized that Kota wasn't repeating any of her offenses, but there were many behaviors that needed correcting simply because she was entirely ignorant to the situation. It seemed that she had never been commanded and that possibly she hadn't really interacted with humans consistently. The only thing I can't seem to get Kota to do is bring the ball back, she will bring it within a few feet and she will drop it, but we're still working on it. Kota is very well socialized with other dogs, her temperament is excellent, she never gets fearful or shows aggression toward any of my dogs or the hundreds of other dogs we've encountered at the beach, dog parks, etc. Kota was terrible at first with my cats, she chased them without hesitation for the first few days, I was very relieved to see that she didn't have any instinct to hurt them, only to chase. Kota now spends quite a bit of time laying on the floor wrestling gently with our kitten. Kota is a great playmate for any other dog, she can go all day, running, wrestling, swimming, etc. She's very high energy, very fast and almost always moving.
