saw a litle dog on the freeway off-ramp onto San Pablo Damn road in Pinole/El Sobrante area. It had a colar and tag. was very small, grey and white, maybe a toy Yorkie. I pulled over and tried to catch it with several other drivers. The dog was cowering under a car waiting at the light. We got the dog to come out, but it ran up the hillside away from the off-ramp. I didn't see where it got to after that.

This is a litter of puppies that my dog had back in March of 2005. I am desperately trying to contact the poeple who purchased any of these puppies from me. The dogs would now be 4 yrs and 7 months old. If you have a pitbull that looks like it could be one of these dogs, or know somebody , or just seen a pitbull that may be one of these dogs, PLEASE, PLEASE, contact me.

I recently discovered that I still have the registration paperwork on these dogs and feel that it is very important that the owner have this. I also would like to share photos, update my album, and share some of the history behind this beautiful bloodline.

Leo is a very special dog in need of a very special home. He came to the shelter with one missing eye and the other eye barely hanging in there and had to have emergency surgery to remove it.

If you meet Leo you wouldn�t know he�s blind! He�s so fluffy he looks like he�s giving you a squinty eyed look! He�s very sweet, gentle, friendly and affectionate. With his foster mom�s help he has nicely adjusted to not being able to see. His only challenge seems to be stairs, he�s a little afraid of them, so he�d love to go to a home where there aren�t stairs or where his family will be willing to carry him up and down the stairs.

Like most Pekingese he�s a very sensitive fellow and gets very sad when his special person is not around, ideally he wants to go to a home where his owner works from home or is retired and where he will be showered in love and attention. He will happily give back every ounce of love you give him!

Leo is already potty trained, he�s paper trained indoors but will happily go potty outside too. Although he�s okay around gentle kids he would prefer to go to a child-free home or a home with older children. Leo does great around other dogs and cats and wouldn�t mind so much sharing his owner with another dog.

The animal shelter - what it's like inside (everywhere)

I volunteer there about twice a week - on my days off from work for 3 or 4 hours each time. I spoke to the staff who work there about euthanasia. They have to put down about 15 to 20 dogs per week - mostly because the dogs will never get adopted. About 80% of the dogs they put down are pits or have pit in them. Very few are dangerous - in fact, it is rare to have to put down an animal because it is dangerous. The cold reality is that nobody is ever going to adopt these poor animals and there are more coming in every day.

I walked through the dog areas - healthy friendly pits were everywhere. Mixed in were dogs from different breeds. I saw 2 small dogs together in one cage - like the fluffy little ones people are always breeding and selling here on CL for hundreds of dollars - they looked bewildered and afraid. There is always a terrific racket going on - barking, wailing, mewling from the cats - the stench is omnipresent and very unpleasant. One gets used to it - sort of. I frequently gag and once went outside and puked. Many of the staff wear surgical masks and some even wear HEPA masks.

The staff at these places are a mix of paid city workers, full and part time, and volunteers. Some of the volunteers do anything and everything and some specialize in one type of animal or are members of rescue organizations.

These places are horribly understaffed and many of the employees are poorly paid but, even so, many are devoted to their jobs and the animals in their care. This is not glamorous work. Scooping excrement, washing, feeding, etc. Many take these jobs because of their love for the animals.
These people, in my opinion, are to be honored.
It is one thing to volunteer. We can come and go as we please. It is quite another to do this day after day.

The animals, after a little time spent at the shelter, lose much of their sparkle and become depressed and withdrawn. The dogs take it the hardest. At any moment you can hear them wailing away. As I walked through the dog rooms each dog comes rushing to the front of the cage hoping for some attention and contact. A large light brown male pit sticks in my memory. He was literally shaking with excitement to see a human. He looked like he was ready to explode. The whole room was a mass of conflicting barks and yelps - some of the staff wear ear muffs to drown out the noise. Unfortunately, there is nothing like this for the dogs. Another dog, with most of it's fur missing, yowled rhythmically and shivered. It sounded like a child crying. It went on for the whole time I was there.

I walked past the cat cages. A dozen paws in chorus reached out through the cages to touch something. There must be 100 cats at the shelter. Most will probably never leave this place alive.

There are rats and mice, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits - tons of rabbits in fact.

If you want to add some value to your life and the lives of these animals - volunteer at your local shelter. It is a huge gift to just sit with an animal or take one for a walk - one does not have to get down and dirty with cleaning to volunteer. If you can't own a pet you still can enjoy the presence of animals.

The shelter also needs people to foster animals in their homes. This alleviates overcrowding, gives animals a break from the shelter, and gives people a chance to see if perhaps they would like to adopt a particular animal permanently. It's a win-win situation.

AND, most importantly, shelters, and the animals in them, need people to adopt from here. Do not buy pets from pet stores or from people who breed animals as a sideline income from their homes. At least give several shelters a look-over and give a chance to these animals who have been waiting for so long to get back to a family who will care for them.

I'm looking for a new family for our dog. He's a 3 year old healthy Maltipoo. Because of our circumstances, we do not have the time/funds to get him ready to be shipped with us as we are relocating. He has been around my 2 & 4 year old and has had no problems; although he would do best in a family with older kids. AND, as you can see from the 1st picture he can run with the big dogs!!! He gets along with my 2 pitbulls and won't put up with no BS! =)

Toby is a 5 year old neutered Cattle Dog mix..he is very smart and knows various commands. He is crate trained although he is so good in the house that he doesn't need to be crated all the time.He is potty trained and he would be a good guard dog as he pays attention to all the goings on in the outside world although he is purely and inside kind of guy.

Spike is a 4 year old pure bred Pit Bull.He is hilarious to be around. He LOVES to sleep and hang out in warm places. His favorite place was laying in front of the wall heater. He also is crate trained and knows his basic commands. Both dogs are not dog aggressive, food agressive or anything like that. I have had them since they were a couple of months old and have taught them to be good guys.

I have several birds available, I would never do this normally but my son and his family have to move back in due to the economy and one of my grandkids have respitory issues so for his health I need to let my beloved birds go, especially since the birds are currently housed in the room the kids will be sleeping in. Two Kittens are all Grey; One is femal and the other male. The male we call: "Fat Grey", and the female: "Runtie". She was the runt of the litter, but is the sweetest of all of them, and sleeps with me evey night.

Two are grey and white mixed with some stripes and a "M" shape on thier foreheads. One is male, who we call: "Mr. Mojo" and the other is female and we call her: "Miss Mojo".

One is a grey & white mix whithe a half pink nose and white feet. He is a male and we call him: "White Socks".

The last one is also a male and is the ONLY one that is Black & White. We call him: "Tuxedo". He has mostly black on his back & head, and white on his belly and legs.

Hey a couple weeks ago I posted here about my current situation. This was the message

"When it rains it pours i guess. I am a dog lover and owner as is my husband, which is why I decided to foster dogs a couple years ago.My husband moved out last week and we are sadly going through a divorce now. I am only 25 so it is rough and to make things worse I am now stuck alone at this house with my dog, my husband's dog, and 3 fosters. Its been a struggle trying to take them out for walks and I really was almost at my breaking point accept that I knew this weekend there was going to be an adoption fair with Tuffies Rescue, the organization i foster for. My plan was to get them adopted or talk to other foster parents there and find new locations for them. I am running out of time until December 1st, frantically looking for an apartment that will take me and my one dog, and just found out the Tuffies Rescue is basically done. The woman who runs it, Diane, got arrested for animal neglect or something and for the first time in years, there is no adoption fair for me to take them to. Probably the worst timing ever for me. Im freaking out...I cant take care of all 5 of these animals another day bc Im such an emotional mess and I feel so overwhelmed alone, and I cant find an apartment or move without doing something about the fosters dogs. I try listing on craigslist and people flag me or flake on me. Im having so much to deal with bc of the divorce but I love these dogs and I cant just take them to some shelter. That is not even an option They are all about 1 year old, maybe a year and a half, 2 boys who are brothers, and one girl. Sweetest dogs ever. I need help. If anyone could just foster them for awhile I could pay for your food or vet bills or anything. Im desparate for any ideas and im just feeling hopeles"

I wanted to thank everyone who helped me out and all the kind emails I got. I was so surprised by the response. I have worked it out with my landlord and can stay at my current house until Jan 1st so I can finally breath easy. The little black shepherd dog I have to still find a home for is Fenton. He is very scared and timid. He has become so nervous bc he hasn't been taken out enough. I have a big yard but when I go to take the dogs for a walk, I am legally and physically only able to take 3. For awhile i paid for dog walkers and he went out 3 days a week. Within two weeks he was able to let strangers pet him without shying away and was really comfortable out and about. Right now though he has reverted to his nervous, scared personality. He needs a foster or forever home where someone will be willing to give him attention, and work with him. Someone who is patient enough to work with him would be ideal. He is the sweetest dog and he can jump higher than anything ive seen. He would make a wonderful pet and gets along with other dogs and cats. If you think you might be able to foster him or adopt him please let me know. Jack has been severely neglected the past few years and really needs someone that will pay attention to him and give him the love he deserves. He gets most excited when he gets to go out somewhere. He also loves baths and will run around the house like a bullet after bathing - he's so excited he can hardly stay in his own skin! Jack would be so happy if someone just let him sit on their lap, he hasn't had the privelege in a long time. He likes to sleep in his dog carrier at night and feels safe there. He is very loving and likes to be around people all the time. Unfortunately, for the past few years he has been alone outside all day in the back yard.

Jack is 11 years old and though he can play like he has the energy of a much younger dog, he is a pretty mellow guy. He is very healthy other than some allergies, and has no arthritis or other medical problems. He has never been a big jumper but likes to stand on his two back legs when you come to see him because he is so happy to see you! Jack was de-barked so he will never be a noise nuisance. He has not been exposed to a lot of other dogs but used to live with a Husky/ Lab companion. True to his JRT hunting lineage, Jack loves to chase anything that moves and has been known to catch birds, rats, and other little rodents. For this reason, he may not do so well with cats. He has never bitten or inured anyone and loves kids and adults alike.

By opening your home to Jack, you will be saving his life. As a foster home for Russell Rescue, Inc., all Jack's medical expenses will be paid for. All you need to do is open your home and your heart. If you are interested in adopting Jack, you are welcome to foster him on a trial basis to see how he meshes with your home. We require at least a three week committment for a foster home. Transportation is available to bring Jack almost anywhere in Northern California. Sachs, the lovely bunny had a very shiny coat. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.

All of the other bunnies used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Sachs join in any bunny games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say: "Sachs with your coat so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the bunnies loved him as they shouted out with glee, Sachs the lovely bunny, you'll go down in history!

Yes, his coat is this lovely. His fur has a luminous quality that makes him irresistible to pet and admire. Sachs is interested in people and enjoys attention but is more comfortable with his feet on the ground. So maybe he won't guide Santa's sleigh! Verona is one of the longest kitty residents at Oakland Animal Services. She is so frustrated by being stuck in a cage for so long she often doesn't make the best first impression. Emily is a 4 year old, white female ring-neck dove. She is a very lively, happy bird who aims to please and loves everyone she meets. She gets along very well with women and men alike, but she does seem to bond more with a woman. She has not had any interaction with any children.

Due to relocation, I will be unable to care for her any more. She will be available to adopt after the Holidays (late December, very early January.) She must have a home soon; please consider this little wonderful bird into your home.

She is a good girl who always seeks to please her owners; however, she is very shy when first meeting people, as any animal would be. Do not be surprised if she does not seem to like you at first; she has a huge heart and is a soothing, positive pet who adores attention. She always wants to make friends with her family. She would do best with a small family or a 1 person house hold with her new parent(s) over the age of 16.

Emily is not able to live with any cats at all, and she has never lived with any other doves/birds, but I believe she could learn to share her life with other like-birds with some positive interaction with such.

Please keep in mind that Emily also has CRS (Chronic Reproductive Syndrome.) Essentially, this means that she bonds very, very hard to certain people and will try to show her devotion through obsessive egg laying. I am unsure if she will continue this behavior with a new owner. She requires a calcium-rich diet because she lays 2 eggs twice every month. To help her not think in a mate-owner mindset, please keep in mind not to pet Emily in a way that she may find sexual. One should never pet a bird with CRS on the bottom or the lower back, nor under the wings, as it stimulates the nesting process and egg laying. She has no history of being egg-bound.

Foxi, female Chihuahua seeks forever home (Compassionate Pet Sanctuary & Rescue)

Now really, have you seen a cuter face than sweet Foxi's? Foxi is a 4 years old spayed Female Chihuahua that has personality plus! She is being fostered in Santa Rosa and lives with 2 other dogs both bigger than her, but she is open to sharing the turf. She is house broken, crate trained (but doesn't like it) has great manners and would do well with kids 10 years or older. She would be the perfect family dog and would welcome having a dog companion. Foxi is a princess, however she has no problem standing up for herself.

Foxi is being fostered through Compassionate Pet Sanctuary and Rescue, a non-profit rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming organization. She is spayed, current on all vaccinations and is a healthly young lady, she is scheduled to get her teeth cleaned very soon.

I found this big guy on the street around my block and he needed HELP! He was so sweet and friendly, but so obviously neglected. He had huge, oozing sores on his body and his mouth was all rotted away, but he wasn't in any pain and he's been tested and it all turned out to be flea allergies. Now he's mended up, on flea control and good food and water; he's gained 10 lbs (and he wasn't thin to start with, lol) and is just a big ball of love. Unfortunately, he doesn't really get the whole living-with-other-cats thing, and I have several others who are happy to cohabit - so he's got to go to another home, or else I'd keep him.

We are needing to re-home our three cats Moki, Kika and Limu. We rescued all of them as kittens, and unfortunately with our move to a smaller home and focusing on our 17 months old, we feel bad about not having the time to spend with our cats. Incidentally, our cousin/roommate is super allergic to cats, and she watches our son during the week, so the cats have been holed up in our bedroom. They need space to play and run!

We would prefer that Kika and Limu stay together, but they will probably be fine as long as they have a loving family. All three are OK with dogs, having lived with our dog for the past two years.

Here's some info on the cats:
Moki - black, longhair, about 14 lbs. Neutered male. Born October 2006. Very loving and likes to sleep by your head. Received his shots at 6 months old. No illnesses. Has never been outside -- seriously, since he was born in our attic!

Kika - gray and white longhaired tabby, about 14 lbs, with a birthmark on his nose. Neutered male. Born May 2007. Littermate to Limu. He's loving and can be mischievous, received his shots at 6 months old. Rescued from our neighborhood.

Limu - black and white, longhair, about 14 lbs. Neutered male. Born May 2007. Littermate to Kika. Very shy, he would do best in a household with older children. Loves to purr, received his shots at 6 months old. Recently treated for feline urinary syndrome (also known as feline urologic syndrome) and is on a type of cat food that is supposed to prevent any future blockages.

The cats are not currently on any flea medication since they are strictly indoor cats and for the past 3 months have had little to no contact with the dog.

We have a scratching post, litter boxes, cat litter, food, and other supplies that will go with the cats (or divided up as evenly as possible if they are separated).

Please send me an email if you are interested, or know anyone who is. We are very torn about this decision but it is in their best interest to have more space and to be around people. We require to personally interview prospective owners and a small donation fee, which we will discuss in person.

Chuckles is getting picked on at my house by the other cats and he's miserable here. Chuckles the cat is a smaller, furry bundle of love and cuddling. He's sweet and quiet and wants nothing more than to be quietly held. He's happy and well adjusted with a good appetite. About four years old, still playful, but more mellow and quiet. He's very healthy, has had shots and been tested for everything. Good flea control, too. He's ready to go to your loving home! Beethoven is a kind, mellow and loyal 12 year old Golden Retriever/Springer Spaniel mix who is need of a loving home for the time that he has left. This devoted boy used to wait for his Mom to come home from work so he could hang out with her in the kitchen or sit in his patio chair watching her do her gardening until it was time to go in. After cancer took Mom away, he lost everything. Muttville rescued Beethoven and he found his happy again but, sadly, he also has cancer now - we don't know how much longer he has with us. We do know that he deserves that special forever home where he will be cared for during the last chapter of his life. He would love to have someone to spend time with either in the kitchen, on garden watch or just lying by their feet. He is housetrained, neutered and current on his shots. Because he's an older guy, he has limited vision and hearing and has trouble with more than 1-2 stairs. He enjoys short walks. He is great with other dogs, cats and older children. Beethoven is a precious soul, he's been through so much since he lost his mom. His story is not over and he needs a very special someone who can help him have a happy ending. Beethoven is a Muttville foster dog. Muttville is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to improving the lives of senior dogs. On a local level, the San Francisco based Muttville rescues senior dogs and finds them foster homes or gives them hospice. On a global level, Muttville provides information about caring for older dogs and support for people who do. Through associations with shelters and other animal organizations, Muttville finds senior dogs that have been given up and are not likely to find adopted homes. Through outreach and networking, Muttville finds suitable foster homes for these dogs. Adoptions are local, confined to around the SF Bay Area. Muttville incurs significant medical and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we must charge an adoption fee of $150.00.

I have been looking for a pet for a REASONABLE adoption fee. i found homes for 3 healthy cats that i rescued and asked for virtually nothing. I think it is important to ask for something (anything) to rehome your pet but those of us who care for animals do not expect profit from them.

Please reconsider your absurd "rehoming fees" and if finding a loving family is so important, think about checking out homes or asking for a donation check in lieu of making profit-or even as some of you consider as making up for your loss from those unfortunate vet bills.

These $200 and + fees are getting tiring. I would not consider adopting a healthy pet on craigslist over the price of a shelter.
