Learn to sing the way Paul McCartney taught Me!

Lessons are offered by East Coast musician, Lindy LaFontaine.
One-on-one singing lessons offer a safe and supportive environment to explore and develop your voice, learning projection and microphone technique (if desired) and working on a wide variety of repertoire and styles. Lessons are extremely relaxed and informal.
Individual lessons to explore and develop your voice in all contemporary styles and genres. I do not tutor classical singers. Beginners and experienced performers welcome.

Current clients come from a variety of backgrounds, amateur and professional, from TV & the music industry to people starting completely from scratch. I have much experience working with beginner singers and those with confidence issues. My clients sing various popular genres, from Rock, Pop, Alternative, Folk & Metal to Musical Theater, Soul & Jazz.

I will work with you to develop many different skills needed by vocalists such as:

-Making your natural tone sound it's best and developing tones that don't come naturally
-Vocal Styles
-Mic Use

"I had always wanted to be a singer. However, years of people making fun of my voice and my inability to distinguish pitch kept me only singing at the private events in my shower. Lindy doesn't just follow some textbook approach to get you to sing better, but rather she learns your voice and tailors a program to take it exactly where you want it to go. I think that, just as important as her great ability to teach, is that she doesn't feed you a load of bull. Just because you pay her, doesn't mean she's going to tell you that you sound like a million bucks. What she will do, however, is take your ten bucks and turn it into at least ten thousand or much much more if you are willing to let her take you there."
"I have been a student of Lindy's for over 3 years. I am very passionate about music and I knew immediately that she was going to be the perfect teacher for me. Not only is she an excellent teacher but she is also an excellent musician with an amazing ear and has a lot of experience in the music world. I felt like I had found a little pot of gold. Lindy has helped me with all aspects of my music including voice, guitar, songwriting and production. I have now written countless songs in all different styles and I feel very comfortable with my musical abilities. I have recorded 2 albums by myself and with my band and I gig all the time. If you really are serious about becoming a great musician and having fun while learning, Lindy is the perfect teacher for you."

-Erin Thompson, aka Red
(from Eating Like Truck Drivers)

"When I met Lindy, I had many years' experience as a drummer, but most of my attempts as a singer were met with derision. Lindy helped me break down the bad habits I'd formed and build up good ones. Her immense amounts of vocal study and years of teaching allow her to effortlessly hone in on vocal problem areas and how to correct them. While most teachers run through the same exercises lesson after lesson, Lindy picks exercises and song assignments based on your technique shortcomings and your individual voice. I think even the most experienced singer can benefit from lessons with Lindy!"

Hello all of CL!
I am a young guitarist in the east bay looking to start a band, or at least jam together with some musicians. I could go on listing a bunch of influences, but I think it'd be easier to say that I like a lot genres, but my playing style leans towards classic and alternative rock. I would like to meet guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists, singers, and any other musicians who want to rock out. I'm 20 years old, so I'd prefer people around my age. However, if you aren't, don't hesitate to respond anyway. Practice/jam sessions in the east bay would be ideal as I don't have a car, but I can get around just fine. I'm not very experienced, but I'm a fast learner. I work and go to school, but I can always make time for good music. Alright, enough of me on my soapbox. Can't wait for all your replies. Also, I posted before, but I was terrible about replies, as my laptop was out of commission, so sorry if I accidentally ignored your emails. I'll respond this time, for sure.

I just moved to the East Bay from SF. Being unfamiliar with the east side, I am looking for suggestions:

I DJ @ 78rpm: primarily Country, Western Swing, Hillbilly, Rockabilly, and Early R&R

I prefer not to plug into a PA because the sound of spinning shellac is lost, so I prefer smaller low-key bars/clubs where I can bring my own full-sound set-up.
I spin on two Califones, and can fill a room with the nice, warm sound of mono shellac via 2 or 4 12"/15" speakers.

I am looking for suggestions of places where this type of music & setup would be appreciated.
(If you are familiar with SF, I spin at places like the Homestead and Argus).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Sweetest Rehearsal Studio in the East Bay Looking for Renters (oakland west)

I have the coolest rehearsal studio you have ever seen. So much more than a rehearsal studio, it is your own private lounge, completely decorated, full bar at your disposal, open 24 hours a day for your pleasure.

It is plug and play, with a house drum kit, bass amp, and PA. So I am looking for monthy renters who are not looking to move a lot of gear in, and would be happy using all the quality gear I have there.

Tell me a little about your band\project, and your needs, and we can work out a price. Looking for cool folks who can respect and appreciate an amazing space. Willing to swing a great deal if I can find folks I like and trust.

Once you see this studio, you will flip! It is always clean, always stocked with booze and mixers, and it is in Soundwave Studios, the best rehearsal facility in the Bay Area by far. More than that, you can rehearse here for the same price or less than the filthy, plain concrete cubicals most folks are looking to share.

If you are looking for a rehearsal space, this is truely a once in a lifetime opportunity. Once you have rehearsed like a rock star, you will never want to spend time in a crappy little dirty room again.

Drop me a note, and we can talk about your band and needs,
Ray

Welcome future piano students!

I have played piano for over 30 years and have been professionally performing for over 20 years. As a classically trained pianist who evolved into jazz, R&B and many other genres of music, I offer a wide range of styles in my teaching, emphasizing technique, theory, sight reading, playing by ear, accompaniment, improvisation and reading charts and lead sheets.

Whatever your age or level, I will create a structured and effective lesson plan so that with practice, you will reach your full potential!

Styles: Classical, Jazz, R&B, Rock, Pop, Blues, etc.

Methods: I have developed my own teaching methods over my years of experience and every student is different so I design a lesson plan to best suit my students' needs. For beginning students, I will sometimes use Faber & Faber and Alfred method books initially in conjunction with my own methods. But as the student progresses, there is no need for the lesson books. I'm not crazy about them because I find the material to be dated and corny but it can be helpful when first starting out.

I'd like to hear what your goals are so I can decide what to focus on with you. Please visit my website for more info at http://www.amynix.com

All ages and levels welcome! I'm also available for events, weddings, parties, etc!

This is an ongoing workshop for advanced beginning drummers that can play and learn basic rhythms. We meet on Sundays from 10:30 to 12:00pm for two months at a time. $200 for 2 months.
We play rhythms assorted rhythms such as Guaguanco, Columbia, Makuta, Bembe, Son, Songo, Mozambique etc. If you are interested but not sure if you are ready to join in with us, I offer a discounted private lesson for $30 to evaluate your technique; timing, hand coordination, sound quality, feel, as well as playing with "pressure". I will give you plenty of things to work on if needed so that you can join in sometime in the near future when some basic concepts have been learned. It is very inspiring for me to work, especially during private lessons, with new students, finding new ways to teach them what I know about the mind/heart connection and how it applies to technique and expression of Afro Cuban rhythmic syncopation.
You can read more about me and check out some drumming videos at my website:

Guitar Lessons with Andrew Reissiger - http://www.andrewreissiger.com

(MP3 audio links below)

Andrew Reissiger is a composer and accomplished multi-instrumentalist on the nylon-string guitar, electric guitar, and Bolivian charango. For a decade, he has helped to bring the charango -- a traditional Andean instrument -- into the world of jazz, chamber music, African and Balkan styles.

Andrew is co-founder of the group Dromedary, an internationally recognized world music ensemble that filters traditional forms into new compositions and arrangements for Bolivian charango, Turkish cumbus, Appalachian lap dulcimer, mandolin, and guitar. He has collaborated with Puerto Ricans Roy Brown Ramirez, Tito Auger, & Puerto Rican-American Tao Rodriguez-Seeger on "Que Vaya Bien," a CD that Jaime Torres Torres of El Nuevo Dia (San Juan, PR) calls "one of ten best productions of 2006." Andrew also works with award-winning songwriter Jonathan Byrd, Ugandan vocalist Omega Bugembe Okello, Stephen Duros (Ottmar Liebert).

With seven critically acclaimed recordings to his name, Andrew Reissiger has had the opportunity to perform in Europe, Africa, Puerto Rico, and throughout the United States. He has shared the stage with the likes of Fania All Stars member Luis "Perico" Ortiz, Andre Manga (Josh Groban & Angelique Kidjo), and Eddy Navia of Sukay and has opened shows for Inti-Illimani, trumpeter Dave Douglas, guitarists Al Di Meola and John Jorgenson, dobroist Jerry Douglas, and even Pete Seeger. Andrew has performed on National Public Radio's Mountain Stage and his music can occasionally be heard in between news stories on NPR's All Things Considered.

Andrew is also an award winning radio producer and filmmaker. His documentary film El Charango (co-produced with photojournalist Jim Virga and Tula Goenka) debuted at the 2005 Silverdocs/Discovery Channel Film Festival in Washington D.C. He is contributing editor to the online guitar community Fretbase.com.

Amateur drummer looking for band (concord / pleasant hill / martinez)

Hello, my name is Tim and I'm looking for a band to play some drums with. I've only been playing for about 2 years now, but I have a firm footing in rhythm due to 8 years of hand drumming (congas and djembe). My drum fills are probably my biggest weakness right now, and I tend to play on the loud side, but I keep a pretty consistent beat and feel like I'm getting the hang of the kick pedal pretty well for an amateur. I might be willing to travel as far as Berkeley if your music is enticing enough (please send a sample) but I'd really prefer to stay somewhere on this side of the Caldecott. My favorite music comes from bands like Pink Floyd, Phish, Zappa, early Genesis (Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is a good one), Bob Marley, DJ's like Prefuse 73, Shadow, Bonobo and Blockhead, some jazz bands (Modern Jazz Quartet, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Fela Kuti, Medeski Martin and Wood are great), and even classical composers (Beethoven, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Prokofiev). If your music sounds anything like what I listed then I'll enjoy playing it, but even if it doesn't I can still attempt to suit your style to the best of my ability (though I should admit I'm not crazy about joining a metal project because the intense tempos might be a little too technically challenging right off the bat). Eventually I'd like to play gigs, but initially I'm just looking to sharpen my chops a bit.

I'd rather hear from a group of players than just one guy, because I'm not that into having to contact like 3 or 4 different people to piece together a worthwhile jam (though if you're willing to do that for me, fine). I'm 29 years old, and I'd prefer to play with people no more than 8 years +/- my age. I'm also a decent keyboard player (9 years), so I can do a little of that on the side and offer composition/melody ideas also, if you like. Hope to hear from you!

So I know its kind of a long shot finding good, reliable band members on craigslist but I’ll give it a shot anyway.
About me:
I’m looking to put together a band. I play guitar (mostly), bass, keys, and some other stuff. I’ve been playing guitar for about 10 years and I’ve been in several bands including one that toured nationally. I just moved back to the Bay Area and I really miss being on a stage. I have a small studio and I work as a producer and audio engineer. I’d like to put together a band and maybe cut a record. I’m open to lots of different kinds of music but I’d like to put together a soulful, funky, indie-ish band. Nothing too serious at first but maybe some local gigs and rehearsal once a week.

What I’m looking for:
Drummer

Review from the SF Weekly:

Hip-Hop Shifts from the Street to the Salon

Classical hip-hop --"yeah, you read that right. Classically-trained composer/pianist JooWan Kim heads up the Ensemble Mik Nawooj, which muscles up moody classical chamber music with funk beats and some fine rhymes by MC Kirby Dominant. This "great integration" works surprisingly (perhaps even shockingly) well. Ensemble Mik Nawooj sounds like something Wu-Tang Clan producer The RZA might conjure up if he got his hands on the Kronos Quartet: dramatic strings, staccato piano riffs, and cinematic flute loops woven through street beats and poetic lyrical flows. When the Wu-Tang entered the 36 Chambers, they probably didn't expect an actual chamber music ensemble to be behind door 35. But who ever said hip-hop had to use two turntables and a microphone?"
- J. Graham

Review from the San Francisco Classical Voice

The first half concluded with the highlight of the evening, JooWan Kim's Ave M (2008), for soprano and ensemble (the composer on piano; Valentino Pellizzer, drums; Rob Woodcock, string bass). The 13 words of the text were set in five contrasting sections over 10 minutes in a distinctive postminimalist style. Harmonies varied from relatively static, arpeggio-based sections to provocative, Baroque-inspired, harmonic sequences. Meanwhile, Moss carried her beautiful, melodic to melismatic lines with powerful expression, resulting in an enthusiastic audience reception at the conclusion. -Jeff Dunn

I have a Martin Freres Flute my husband bought for me at an auction, but we're not sure how much it is worth. I don't know anyone who knows more about this flute, so I'm hoping one of you will be able to help. On the flute is inscripted 1729. On the front of the case it says Martin Freres Woodwinds, Paris France. The case appears to be pretty well taken care of, but it needs some work done, and before I have it fixed or sell it, I want to know if it's worth what it would cost to fix. Please let me know if you know how much it's worth or if you know someone who would know.
Thanks Much!

Hi!

Smart, funny, down to earth, no BS or drama, soulful vocalist with wide ranging tastes seeks inspired music partner(s) for ongoing collaboration. To give you some idea, I guess my focus is sort of roots/folk based, but I grew up on soul, listen to alot of jazz, sang for a year in a bluegrass band, and listen to everything from classical to blues to Mexican folk music to....honestly, you name it. If it has heart and soul, I am going to like it.

I discovered relatively late in life (just turned a very youthful 45) that I can really sing. Sang last year in my first band - we performed locally about twice a month. I'm motivated by a genuine love of music, and the desire to make it and share it with others. Not seeking fame, or ego-driven musicians. Life is short. Let's work hard and have a good time!! I'm seeking like minded , inspired, down to earth musicians who are primarily doing this for the pleasure of it.

I sing lead and harmony, and am learning rhythm guitar. And I'm happy to consider existing bands, depending on repetoire, chemistry, and workload!

Ideally we'd practice together once a week, work up a two or three set playlist, and start performing once a month or so.

In your response, please tell me about you, your musical influences, and what appeals to you about this ad.

Thanks!!

Hi my name is Peter Warsaw. I am a professional guitar player and studio musician from the East Bay. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and have taught professionally for 5 at a prestigious music academy. My accomplishments include winning the regional Guitarmeggedon guitar competition in 2005 and I have filled in for several national acts. My work has been featured on television commercials and major motion picture soundtracks. I am fluent in all styles ranging from classical, jazz, blues, rock, metal, shred, folk and flamenco. I will take any student whatever age and level and take them to the level they desire to be; I have plenty of experience teaching children. The best thing is I am only charging nearly half of what most guys with less experience and skill charge.Send me an E-mail and I will provide you with my phone number and additional information if you like.

Bass Needed for Original Rock Band... (dublin / pleasanton / livermore)

Bassist Needed for Professional Rock Band...

We play all originals and fall in the Hot AC Rock Genre...similar to Nickelback and Hinder, with some 80's influences. We have major management and legal representation and currently have an indie radio guy trying to get our single added throughout the country. That doesn't mean we sit back and wait for it to happen though. We need someone who is dedicated and understands that a band doesn't just get signed anymore...you have to earn it, and we bust tail trying to do that. All the pieces are in place and we've just got to keep moving forward. The current bassist is leaving due to a new child and he just can't commit anymore. We wish him well and he will help in the transition but we are looking for someone immediately. We play about 6-10 shows/month - although the winter is slower which gives us time to make the transition - and are starting to book a national tour around our South by Southwest (in Austin, TX) gig in March.

I know we all hate it when bands don't post links but we are trying to keep this transition quiet...and we will send something as soon as you contact us. We have plenty of online presence for you to check out. If you're interested please send us a myspace/facebook/website/mp3/or whatever link to some of your playing. We'll do the same and we'll see where it goes from there.

Thanks and good luck in your search.

Preferably looking for a band that is in to the best kind of rock. Babes, Bikes, Brawls and Booze....yes 80's sleazy hair metal. I am not limited to this genre but it is by far my fave. I have played everything from Hank Williams Sr to Primus, Korn and Slipknot.
Tributes sound cool but I am not joining the 1057th AC/DC tribute, they are cool but I would prefer something more original like a Poison, Alice Cooper, or Skid Row tribute.
