Production Designer Description: The Bark, the award-winning magazine of modern dog culture, is seeking a talented, experienced and highly motivated Production Designer to work in its West Berkeley office. Under the guidance of the Creative Director, the Production Designer will prepare editorial image files, typeset and refine layouts, work with advertisers to prepare production-ready ads, shepherd pages through editorial production, and contribute to the successful execution of supporting collateral including web-based editorial and marketing. The ideal candidate is hands-on, very detail-oriented, and has the ability to manage tasks from start to finish. Small office and demanding work requires a talented individual with flexibility/attitude who pitches in wherever and whenever needed.
* Thorough knowledge of CS4
* 5+ years design experience
* Editorial experience a plus, print experience a must
* Ability to interact with clients, basic admin required
* Impeccable typography skills, clean layout practices, superior color management for print, practical knowledge of current printing/production technology and PDF workflow
* Ability to prioritize, work quickly and meet deadlines
Position is part-time, 2 days per week, with a stretch of two 40 hours+ weeks approximately every 6 weeks. The Bark publishes 5 issues/year, along with an active website. This is a relaxed, non-corporate environment and the opportunity to contribute to extraordinary and beloved magazine about DOGS. While principle duties are production, there is the opportunity for editorial, collateral and web design as talents and needs dictate.
