Having been raised by parents who were both music teachers and performers, Kathleen's life from the very beginning has revolved around the performing arts. Piano and dance lessons were started at the age of 6, and then 8 years of Oboe lessons followed. Literally...she has been performing on stage for 48 years in a wide variety of musical and dance activities.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from East Bay CA State University in 1979. Not one to stop learning, she went on to study opera for 8 years with the world renown opera coach and conductor Dietrich Erbelding. Then came other advanced educational workshops: The Estill Voice Training System, a highly successful and quick method that shortened the learning curve from 4 years to 4 months for most students. If you want to learn how to belt without growing nodes on your vocal chords, sing your low notes as loud as your high notes, sing all the way up to the whistle range, and change the color of your voice to match whatever style of song you are singing at the moment, Kathy has over 30 years of teaching experience and a huge bag of tricks to get you there FAST!
She also spends time in researching the latest piano teaching methods so as to stay current with new and improved ways to teach this beautiful instrument.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in 2003 from East Bay California State University.

Whether you want to learn classical, jazz, pop, or rock, Angela does it all from singing to playing the piano. She loves to work with students of all ages and abilities, from children to adult beginners, or those interested in returning to music after several years away. For those geared towards a professional career in singing, this teacher can provide performance techniques and anything needed to succeed in the music industry, including how to make lead sheets for a band and to get your press kit together.
In her vocal lessons she focuses on the fundamentals of proper singing technique that can be applied to any style of singing. She will help you increase your power and range without vocal blow out. Because of the style of singing and vocal warm-ups she learned from the Mark Baxter Vocal Studio, she will work with the muscles involved with the voice so they are strengthened and coordinated by exercises which do not interfere with 'style.' Second, all additional muscles (the trouble makers) are relaxed. The result is vocal strength and flexibility, which allows you to sing from the heart rather than your head.
She received her Bachelor's Degree in Music in 2003 at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at Cal State East Bay. Her personal vocal instructor was Mark Baxter who is a well-respected, published author and teacher.

Jacqueline Hairston began playing the clarinet at the age of ten in her hometown of Tracy, CA.
Her interest in music quickly grew into a hobby, which would eventually lead her to make music
her passion and her profession. In middle school she decided to add another instrument to her list and
began to play the alto saxophone, which would lead her to her interest in playing the baritone saxophone.
In the fall of 2003 Jacqueline attended California State University, East Bay where she received her
Bachelor’s of Arts in Music Performance and Music Education. While pursuing her education Jacqueline
performed with the University’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Workshop, and Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, Jacqueline performs with groups around the Bay Area including Fremont’s award winning Starstruck Theatre
and California State University, East Bay’s Symphony Orchestra. She also teaches beginning and
intermediate band classes at various elementary schools and assists at other schools in the Fremont area.
Calisa Hildebrand - Flute Instructor
Calisa started playing the flute at the age of 10 and hasn’t stopped since!
Her passion for music and teaching brought her to Cal State Long Beach, where she received a
double major in Music Performance and Music Education, as well as a minor in Marketing.
There, she received a strong pedagogical foundation from her studies with Dr. John Barcellona,
Rena Urso-Trapani and Darrin Thaves. Calisa went on to receive her Master’s degree from UC Santa Barbara,
where she honed her musicianship and artistry with Jill Felber. As the teaching assistant, Calisa had a full private studio,
led the university flute choir, and was given the “Distinguished Performer” award.
Calisa is attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She is a candidate for the Professional Studies Diploma,
in which she has the incredible opportunity of studying with Timothy Day, the principal of the San Francisco Symphony.
Brass Instruments Michael McKaigg - Trombone Instructor
Michael is a Bay Area native with over 20 years of experience on trombone and electric bass. He is the principal trombonist
of the renowned Concord California Band of the Salvation Army. He also currently plays bass with the rock instrumental group
“LoNero”, cover band “Meritage," pop singer “Tara Vel,” and recording with “Death of the Author Brigade."
Michael has had the opportunity to play in many parts of the world including Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Ireland, England, and Scotland.
He has shared the stage with such notable artists as Leslie Uggams, Eddie Palmieri, Herman’s Hermits, Matt Catingub, GiGi Gonaway (Mariah Carey, Eric Martin) Mic Gillette (Tower of Power), and Gary Hoey. In addition, Michael has studied with such great local musicians as Frank Sumares,
Cindy Browne, Kurt Patzner, John Gove, and Tim Devine.
Michael spent seven years as a volunteer instructor at the Salvation Army music camp in Scott’s Valley, California. There he was a band director, bassist for vocal groups, and head of music theory instruction. He is also a member of Washburn’s “emerging artists” and the “Friends of Peavey”.

In addition to freeing the voice, there are many other things to learn about singing that expand the experience to a more fulfilling level. How about musicianship, for instance? That is, learning the language of music so that you can communicate with instrumentalists, write your own charts, compose your own songs. Taking the guesswork out of fundamentals and theory opens many doors and allows you to ask for what you want in a way that other musicians can understand. It also contributes to that all important confidence level that enhances your performing life.
Finally, one of the most important questions any singer must ask is: what do I want to sing? There are so many styles, so many songs. Most singers want to find the voice that is uniquely their own through song selection and the artistic interpretation of these choices. In order to do this in a satisfying way it helps to have a real live accompanist who can help you try out your tunes in a variety of tempos and keys (no, you don’t have to sing in the same key as the singer on the recording). I play piano and often play with a drum machine, which provides a reasonable facsimile of an actual groove. It’s great to practice with recorded accompaniments so you know how you sound without the voice of the original artist on the CD getting in the way. I have direct-to-CD recording gear so lessons and songs can be recorded and taken with you to work on at home. And if you’re not quite sure what music you like, an experienced teacher can suggest material for you to try. It matters to me that you are singing songs that you really love, that bring you joy and just feel good, no matter what the style (or your skill level). I know zillions of songs and have been pretty successful in helping students find material they enjoy.
I have been teaching theory, technique, repertoire interpretation, and performance in lessons and classes for over 20 years, including 5 years at the Blue Bear School in SF, 9 years at the Jazzschool in Berkeley, and 5 years at the Sierra Jazz Society music camp. The goal with most students is accent reduction, not elimination. Some of our most elegant speakers speak according to the rules, but retain a subtle element of their native tongue. I like to encourage that, except in rare cases.
My linguistic training involved studying Spanish, German, Arabic and Hebrew. But I work well with students from all linguistic backgrounds. I taught Freshman Composition at the community college level, and taught privately for over 20 years. I also publish a variety of commentary and humor, including on linguistic issues.
In addition, I offer counseling services for applicants to college, law school, MBA and other graduate programs.

I play gypsy-style flamenco guitar, with the emphasis on rhythm and expression. I learned this style from Diego del Gastor with whom I studied in Morón de la Frontera (near Sevilla) in the early 70s. I play Bulerias, Soleares, Alegrias, Tangos, Siguiriyas, Granadinas, Tarantas, Sevillanas, Fandanguillos.

At St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland, I was the guitar and percussion instructor, as well as the sixth grade percussion ensemble director. I have taught private guitar, conga, and piano lessons for many years, both privately and at Bay Area music stores. A long time teacher in the Bay Area, Aina began training in Russia at
the age of six. She is currently with the Vallejo Symphony and teaches
some of the best local violin students in the area. Several of her
students have won concerto competitions and been featured as soloists
for the Walnut Creek and Berkeley Youth Orchestras.
Aina’s background includes 12 years at Glier’s Music School and 5
years at Tashkent State Conservatory in Uzbekistan. During that time
she played for Tashkent Television and Radio Orchestra of Chamber
Music as well as First Violin Player for the State Symphony Orchestra
of Theater, Opera and Ballet.
Shortly after arriving in the United States she joined the Vallejo
Symphony Orchestra and has continued from 1997 to the present. Aina
makes her home with her husband and children in Vallejo California.
Aina demands a lot from her students and those who are committed
develop to high levels of performance. She commands their respect and
admiration.
Through many years of personal study, performance and teaching Aina
has acquired the magical ability to inspire hard work yet still keep
an air of fun in the lesson room. She has well formed ideas about
