Experienced, Patient Math Tutor with an Effective Teaching Approach (Berkeley)
IF PEOPLE DON'T BELIEVE THAT MATHEMATICS IS SIMPLE, IT'S ONLY BECAUSE THEY DON'T REALIZE HOW COMPLICATED LIFE IS.
You may doubt this for now, but math is not difficult, it's just different! Mastering it therefore requires a different approach. My approach to teaching math might help to remove that doubt.
My initial premise is that every student has his/her own style and pace of learning and barring extreme exceptions every student can learn math. I offer one on one individualized tutoring in Statistics, Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, All Levels of High School and College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Finite Math, Basic Calculus and Standardized Test Preparation.
I work with all high school, home school and college students as well as adults and am very comfortable helping students who suffer from math anxiety as well as students who have mild to moderate learning disabilities. I'm patient, reliable, dedicated to my students' success, have a friendly demeanor and lend humor to the learning process.
I employ a proactive, involved teaching style to facilitate improved comprehension of and rapid progress in your coursework. My communication skills are excellent which allow me to freely use familiar experiences, diagrams and props in my explanations. I try to remove technical jargon as much as possible by using every day language as well as break your course material down into bite size pieces to render my explanations of concepts and problem solving approaches clear and easy to understand.
I have multiple degrees in the physical sciences, am a former instructor and have been tutoring math with students for nearly 9 years, which has allowed me to enjoy the opportunity of successfully working one-on-one with a wide range of students.
My rates are competitive. I meet with students in Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont, Alameda, Albany, El Cerrito, Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga, Walnut Creek, San Leandro, and adjacent areas as well as SF and am happy to meet with you in your home, at convenient local libraries or quiet cafes.
If you are ready to get started or have any questions, please contact me at the above email address. Please let me know what math course(s) you are taking along with your phone number, good times to reach you and any other information you would like me to know. I look forward to assisting you soon!
