Hi,

We have a room to offer in our beautiful, old rickety victorian . We have a front yard and back yard with some plants already growing and plenty of potential for future farmers. The kitchen is big, has plenty of cupboard space and cozy when eat around the table. The living room is big enough for slumber parties and has a strange old organ to boot. The bathroom stays clean, has a tub and seldom has a line. Hardwood floors throughout (except kitchen and bathroom which is linoleum).
The room faces eastward and gets good morning light. It has been freshly painted, has a nice closet and high ceilings
You could potentially repaint or reconfigure the room as you saw fit. This goes for the rest of the house as well as we are afforded a fair amount of liberty by our landlord.

I like to think of ourselves as responsible punks. We have jobs, clean up after ourselves and have lived in enough collective/shared housing to know how to talk about our grievances in a timely and respectful fashion. We don't currently have house meetings but wouldn't be adverse to them happening as long as they didn't substitute good, open, communication.
The kitchen is mostly vegan though we don't mind sharing with others as long as they are respectful and can clean up after themselves. We eat together when we can and have occasional potlucks as well. I'm currently excited about our new waffle-maker and have been makin some mean vegan treats (ricemellow!). We share many of the staples in common, and don't really sweat the small stuff (you kill it, you fill it).
The house is sober though not religiously straight edge. I don't much care if folks have a drink or two after work but don't ever want to babysit another drunk punk and pick up tall cans all over the house. We have potlucks, dinners and get loudish but definitely not a party house. Most of us go to school, work or have books to read, bikes to fix, letters to write, etc... Again, do what you do, just be respectful. You can expect the same.
Queer, queer, queer, queer. When I get off work I like to get home, put on a record and strip down to my underwear. I can often be seen walking around the house doing various tasks in a state of undress. I'm not pushy about it, I'm just too old to be ashamed of my queer, trans body. Other folks in the house aren't as showy as me but please don't be uncomfortable with queer bodies or queer sex. Again, you don't have to be queer but you gotta be respectful at the very least. PS. that means that I will willingly wear clothes when your date/friend/relative comes over, just ask.
West Oakland is a unique place. We are currently all white identified folks in a predominantly and historically working class neighborhood of color. That means we tread lightly, are respectful, act accordingly and are cognizant of our roles as newcomers and outsiders. There are plenty of nice folk to meet and talk to once you make the effort. The area has it's benefits, quirks and difficulties and we would prefer to live with someone that knows the area a little or least knows how to act.
We currently have one grumpy matriarchal cat, one ex-pregnant kitten and her small kitten as well. The two younger kittens will probably be gone to good homes. We would consider new pets as long as they got along with our eldest.

Rent is cheap ($325) and so are bills (no more than $40). We live near BART, 99 cent store, Mandela food co-op, nice neighbors and sweet punks. I'm hoping to have some kale and other greens growing by early spring, I could definitely use some help. I'm also pretty excited to clear out the basement to make more common space.
We are looking for dec 1st though we could move that to dec 15th or jan 1st for the right person.

I'm a male UC Berkeley Senior and my roommate is graduating a semester early and thus moving out.

The apartment is one bedroom (where I'm in) and the living room is huge.
You will be living in the living room, a very spacious one at that. I lived in it for a year (I've been in this unit for 2 1/2 years now).
If you really need a mattress, I have a memory foam mattress that you can borrow as well.
We have a full kitchen, dining area, and a full bathroom.

There is a bus stop for the 7 line very close to the apartment as I take it often to school.
If you have meal points, Clark Kerr is right next door.

The apartment has good management with maintenance on site 1-2 days a week as well as a maid keeping the facility clean. If something breaks, they will fix it very quickly.
We also have laundry on the ground floor with 4 washers and 4 driers. There's also a soda vending machine.
You can get a parking spot as well since we have a garage downstairs. I think it's $100 a month. I'll ask manager for confirmation if you need to know.
Internet/cable is $32 and we pay for gas/electricity. Although I'm thinking of discontinuing cable (my roommate watches TV) which would most likely lower $32.
