New Connections has provided community-based behavioral healthcare services in Contra Costa County since 1972. The agency maintains counseling centers in Concord, Pittsburg, and Richmond. Position location: Richmon, CA.
Definition:
The CalWORKs Liaison (also known as Wellness to Independence) is responsible for providing mental health and substance abuse assessments, education and treatment referrals for CalWORKs participants. New Connections places CalWORKs Liaisons at Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services’ sites in Antioch, Richmond, Martinez and Hercules. The CalWORKs Liaison position reports directly to the Program Director of the Women’s Program and the CalWORKs Liaison Coordinator. This is a non-exempt position
Duties:
• Provides assessment, crisis management and referral for substance abuse and mental health services as needed for CalWORKs participants.
• Serves as a resident “expert” to the Employment & Human Services staff member in his/her area of expertise, and trains and consults with staff on substance abuse and mental health issues.
• Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with community substance abuse and mental health service providers.
• Gives presentations to staff and clients of provider agencies and other relevant organizations.
• Provides appropriate documentations and reports for the agency and other stakeholders and assists in developing information, public relations and marketing materials.
• Participates in ensuring an effective, healthy, client-centered, outcome-orientated work environment, and maintains the highest possible level of professional and ethical standards.
• Other duties as assigned by the Program Director of the Women’s’ Program and the CalWORKs Liaison Coordinator.
• Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures of New Connections.
• Adheres to all federal, state and local laws.
Education: Bachelor's degree required in Counseling, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience:
• Demonstrated expertise in substance abuse and/or mental health counseling services.
• At least two years experience providing direct services in a community-based setting.
• Excellent oral and written skills.
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse people in a community-based setting.
Skills and Abilities:
• Basic ability to identify mental health and recovery related concerns
• Language and writing skills sufficient to create quality paperwork
• Familiarity with client rights, confidentiality, ethics and other regulations specific to professional code of conduct.
• Ability to handle client emergencies in a professional manner
Computer proficiency in MS Word/ Excel/ Access. Present positive image of agency to community. Work effectively in a team environment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate well using English in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work with ethnically diverse population.
License: Valid California Drivers License, Class III/ C in good standing. Proof of current auto insurance.
Employment is contingent upon successful pass of drug testing, fingerprinting, successful reference checks, pre-employment health screen, DMV clearance if applicable, current certificate in first aid/CPR (or scheduled), and agreement to uphold all New Connections Policies and Procedures.
