SALARY RANGE: $4,627.20 - $5,625.62/Mo. $26.69- $32.45/hr. City pays employee's 7% PERS in addition to salary, plus an excellent benefit package. Placement within the salary range will depend on qualifications and experience. The City does not participate in social security.

THE POSITION: Under general supervision performs the operational work and maintenance at the Water Treatment Plant and performs other work as required.
Incumbents of this class work independently without direct supervision during their assigned shift and are responsible for the operation of the Water Treatment Plant. They follow standing orders for emergency action required to operate the plant.
TYPICAL TASKS: Operates water treatment equipment and machinery, including pumps, chlorinators, filters, and chemical feeders; regulates flow of water through water systems; takes samples and makes standardized laboratory tests, including tests for temperature, alkalinity, turbidity, chloride, PH, and bacteriological analysis; adds specified amounts of chemicals to the water system; makes minor repairs and adjustments to machinery, equipment, pipes, and other materials pertinent to the operation of the plant; maintains maintenance and operational records; cleans inside and outside of buildings; unloads and stores chemicals properly; does general maintenance of the plant, including, but not limited to, painting, general custodial work, upkeep of equipment, etc.; assists in repairing water and parking meters in slack time; and may assist in the inspection of existing backflow prevention devices, or new ones as they are installed.
REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent required. Possession of Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade III Certificate issued by the State of California. Possession of or able to obtain, prior to employment, a California Driver’s license and a good driving record.
Desirable: Knowledge of the basic methods and techniques of water treatment plant operation; knowledge of operation, maintenance, and servicing of pumps and other plant equipment and machinery; knowledge of basic laboratory techniques to make standardized tests. Ability to perform standardized laboratory tests; to make repairs and/or adjustments to water treatment equipment and to keep records and prepare reports; to read and interpret gauges and recording devices used in the water treatment plant; to lift sacks of chemicals and to read and follow written and oral instructions; to work efficiently with others.
CURRENT BENEFITS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Retirement: Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Currently, the City contributes 100% of the employee's portion toward retirement.
Deferred Comp: The City makes available a deferred compensation plan (ICMA) for employee contribution.
Vacation: Twelve working days annually for the first four years of service.
Holidays: Sixteen and one half days per year. Employee also receives 32 hours of floating holiday time.
Sick Leave: Accrued indefinitely at the rate of one day per month.
Insurance: Currently the City offers Kaiser and Blue Cross PPO for health coverage. The City pays 100% of the Kaiser premium rate. For employees hired after 1/1/07, the City will pay the amount of the Kaiser premium in effect on January 1, 2007 plus 85% of each increase in the premium. The employee will pay 15% of each increase in the premium. These contributions will be cumulative. Employees selecting coverage other than Kaiser must pay the difference between the Kaiser premium contribution and that of the other health plans. Employee will also receive Delta Dental, Life Insurance and Long Term Disability, for which the City pays 100% of the premium.
Probation: Employee must successfully pass a six month probationary period.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and involves physical exertion. There is exposure to the hazards associated with working around traffic, in inclement weather, and with a variety of tools and equipment.
