THE JOB

Reporting to the Head Chef, this is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt, non-benefited position that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.

This position is responsible for assisting the Head Chef and Sous Chef with food preparation and helping to ensure proper food safety and kitchen sanitation. The ideal candidate should have previous cooking experience in a professional kitchen environment. We are looking for an organized and efficient team player able to handle multiple, competing and varied tasks with ease. The successful candidate must also be able to work alone.

The position will average 20-22 hours per week, mostly afternoons, with at least one weekend shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

1. Meal Planning and Preparation
a) Maintains an awareness of and incorporates resident dietary needs and restrictions into meal planning and preparation.
b) Prepare nutritionally-balanced meals for residents as planned with Head Chef.
c) Prepare and present meals to fit a home style comfort food atmosphere with flexibility for special requests and needs.
d) Supervise and instruct assistants and/or volunteers as necessary.

2. Kitchen Environment
a) Ensure compliance of kitchen hygienic standards and sanitary food handling practices.
b) Maintain clean kitchen area throughout assigned shifts including: counters, refrigerator/freezers, and stove. Floor is, at minimum, kept broom clean.
c) Work with Head Chef on quarterly cleaning schedule of appliances, food preparation and storage items.
d) Store and label all food appropriately.
e) Participate in periodic kitchen staff meetings and trainings as required.
f) Support planning and implementation of any special events or activities that involve kitchen service.
g) Complete other special duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Demonstrate the basic skills and core competencies of a Cook, including kitchen safety and hygiene, food preparation, managing multiple, competing and varied tasks, time management, listening skills, problem solving, decision making and successfully managing work-flow.
2. Perform tasks in a culturally sensitive manner without regard to any protected category as defined by Federal, State or local law(s).
3. Possess fluency in English. Fluency in Spanish or other language (preferred).
4. Possess a valid California Driver's License with good driving record.
5. Check their GMCH email daily in order to be apprised of House business and professional tasks and responsibilities.
6. Utilize GMCH resources in a cost effective manner.
7. Adhere to all approved GMCH policies and procedures.
8. Maintain professional boundaries within scope of practice.
9. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. 1-2 years experience in a similar position.
2. High School Diploma or GED preferred.

COMPENSATION

Very competitive, hourly, non-benefited.
