60 Minutes, the CBS Newsmagazine recently featured a story on tax swapping by public transportation agencies. The reporter was Steve Kroft.

Here's the story: When businesses buy capital goods like buses and trains, they get to depreciate the cost of the equipment as a cost against revenues and get a tax benefit for the depreciation. Public transportation agencies like BART, AC Transit and San Francisco MUNI and the like don't pay state or federal taxes so when they buy capital goods like buses and trains, they get no depreciation and they get no tax benefit through depreciation.

Consequently, what public tranportation agencies have done is a tax swap with private entities. They sell their buses, trains, etc. to private entities and then lease them back from the private entities. This is a sale and lease back transaction. The private entities get the depreciation and the tax benefits of depreciation and the public agencies share the tax benefits through the sale and lease back transaction. Of course, this is legal under federal and state law.

I have a similar tax swap for you by which we will both benefit. In addition, I will provide a finder's fee/commission if you find someone who will do the deal on suitable terms
