I am driving a rental van from Berkeley to the Ritter Range (via Yosemite and Mammoth, Ca) for a mountaineering climb/hike of Mt. Ritter. This epic chunk of high sierra is known for its beauty and history (John Muir was the first to climb Ritter in 1872.) The Ritter Range is quite possibly the most awesome set of rock in the entire High Sierra and a Sister to the Tetons of the Rockies. I do not require experience in mountaineering to join our group, but you must be in good condition and have experience in camping. I am providing all essentials for the trip to streamline the hike. This trip WILL INCLUDE; Yosemite passage, Mono Lake Tufa Reserve visit, mountaineering trip to Mt. Ritter, a visit to Devils Post Pile National Monument, and a possible stop at Reds Meadow Hot Springs

howdy,

my name is Mike. I'm trying to tag along on a trip out to bishop this month, or next month. I'm mainly interested in climbing at owens river gorge, but am also stoked to check out the bouldering. I'm pretty constrained and understand if our aims would not mesh. I don't think I would be able to leave for more than four days, including any overlap with thanksgiving because of my work situation.

I've been climbing for around a year and a half. Was mostly bouldering then began to be limited by tendons in my wrist and have shifted my focus to lead climbing, though I have not been regular enough to progress to where I think I could be. Indoors I've boulder up to v5 though I'm mostly solid on 3s and about 50% on v4s. I've led no hang up to 11c but am probably more solid on 11a. Outdoors I've bouldered up to v5 though am probably more v2-v3 right now. Havent had much outside route experience ( have led 3 times outside). best top rope no hang 11a several months ago. Best lead 10b dihedral a few months ago. Best onsight 10a slab (first ever lead) at the gorge a year ago. My endurance was getting a lot better and then had a hand injury recently that kept me out of the gym for about 10 days and so I've lost a little, but am still looking to redpoint around 10d next time I get to the gorge.

anyhow, I don't have much money and so could probably only go halves on gas. I have my own shoes, chalk, harness, but no rope or draws or pad. Willing to belay 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 for sure.

Its easy for me to be a quiet passenger though I am interested in talking about reality, ethics, epistemology, truth, social and ecological crisis, or basically how we relate to the world in general. Also, festivals, rock climbing, creatures, magical people, and cool places.

music: i tend to avoid or go insane from hearing songs I've heard a million times (beatles, nirvana, led zeppelin, postal service, ratatat, jurassic 5 or most other popular music) On long road journeys I like pretty music, esoteric, ambient, orchestral, or electronic(dance or chill mode).

A brand new East Bay cheerleading team is seeking female cheerleaders, 21 and older, to audition for the 2010 season!

Strong cheerleaders wanted. Stunting and tumbling experience highly desirable but not mandatory. Dancers will get a chance to showcase their skills.

Auditions will be held some time in January (possibly later if the interest list is short).

Practices will be held on Wednesdays from 6-8PM in the East Bay; more practice days will be added as we get closer to scheduled performances.

Plese come ready to learn a cheer and show us any special skills. Hair must be pulled back. Have a short, unique cheer memorized. It could be totally original or one you learned with a former team.

We will be cheering at community events (TBD) and at competitions (perhaps as a showcase team).

Our colors are Columbia blue, black, silver and white!

Tonight Playland-Not-at-the-Beach starts a 3-week course taught by 21-year old Brenton Cromwell (in-house magician at Tommy T's Nightclub) on "Close-up Magic." I am looking for local folks who might be interested in talking about themselves for 30 minutes to a complete stranger. I have recently enrolled in a graduate Master's program in Counseling Psychology, and as part of my training I am holding several "dyad listening sessions" in which I practice basic listening skills. The only requirements to participate are that you be at least 18 years old; people of all ages, gender identifications, ethnic backgrounds, religious traditions, sexual orientations, political views and lifestyles are welcome. All I'll ask of you is that you talk about whatever you'd like for 30 minutes.

Please note that this is NOT therapy. I will have a list of referrals available should you decide during our session that you are interested in seeing a licensed professional. My job will be to listen and occasionally reflect back or summarize what I hear. The sessions will be recorded for my own later use as I write a reflection paper - NO ONE ELSE will hear the recording and I will keep the strictest confidentiality regarding what is said during the sessions. You don't even have to give me your real name.

The meetings will take place in my home in North/Downtown Berkeley. To maintain continuity, there will be no music, food, alcohol, cigarettes or interruptions allowed - with the exception of bathroom breaks, of course ;)

I am not able to compensate you - but if I do a good job, hopefully you will leave feeling that you've gotten something out of it.

Do you produce film, writing that can be adapted to TV, Digital Movies, or documentaries? We are a Visionary Creative Problem Solving network called Galaxy Studios. Presently: The Good News and Department of Good Ideas filmed. We also bring on board regional sports specials with innovative camera angle. The new general network being built now. Shows play in: New York, L.A., Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Berkeley. We are a visionary network that does not produce the "violent explosions and killings" genre, but new, fresh, like the Twilight Zone, like meaningful things for those who see more meaning or have yet an extra gear that the others don't. We seek to awaken people from their potent slumber and introduce how to use ideals and the positive things we have heard about us, but seldom see in application.

We need your productions. Perhaps you can join our projects, but the idea is that if we like what you do, we play your stuff. If we like your writing: we always use it in short dramas or comedies, the half hour or 15-minute type. Comedy is emphasized as a key problem-solving method. All these serious people aren't getting it done, are they? It's up to the artists, writers, comedians, film makers to bring us back to a positive evolution and design of the tapestry we are all building as a world, now soiled, tattered, in the corner of the closet for the most part.

If you think this is a job: It is not at all. This is your own production and business, you're the boss of yourself. Certainly film-making can be one of your 3-120 businesses, but this is very slow start, and more for the art and creation right now, the opportunity (of course, this is how all millionaire film makers started: they support easy-expense lives with cheap fun living like Picasso while taking free shots at large economies that sum 3-120).

Have your turned on your Super-Creativity yet? Why don't you do a short film on that? We know how to play film festivals, create them, do special events, play productions in restaurants and coffee shops, etc. This is ideal for the super creative person for whom money is not a stress, then comes the flower of your civilization.

East Bay Front Runners and Walkers is a group of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgenders and friends who get together to run and walk in scenic locations on the east side of San Francisco Bay every Saturday morning at 9:00. We follow our exercise with brunch at one of several great local restaurants.

While the Saturday morning run/walk is our club�s staple, we also enjoy seasonal Wednesday evening run/walks, pot lucks, movie nights, museum tours, ballgames, wine tastings, and occasional weekend getaways.

We welcome people of all athletic abilities, from casual walker to competitive runner, and everyone in between. We take pride in being friendly and inviting, and we encourage you to come out and see for yourself. Our running and walking events are non-competitive, self-paced, range from three to seven miles, and last 45 minutes to one hour. All paths and trails are easily accessible to runners and walkers alike.

Our mission is to promote the sports of running, walking and related athletic events for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and their supporters. Our goal is to have fun, promote healthy activity and to create community.

It�s an el nino winter pattern this year and there is already a 20� base in the mountains. Last season was intense and at times it seemed like there was 24� of fresh powder daily. This season should be even better. Don�t miss it. Better yet bring along your own personal photographer and capture it for the ages.

For the last 5 seasons I have ridden and have an extensive knowledge of the terrain at Kirkwood, Heavenly, Mammoth and June mountains. I will also consider shooting at other mountains if you are knowledgeable of the boundaries. I�m available for back country / out of bounds photography as well, depending on the skill level of your group.

I will follow you and your crew all over the mountain (parks and pipes, trees, cornices and chutes) from first chair to last chair, with a 45-minute lunch break somewhere in between. I shoot with a canon DSLR and I have a fish eye lens for capturing some incredible action shots in the park and pipe. I will go anywhere on the mountain and we can set up in some stunning areas on the mountain for some posed group shots. There is some incredible scenery out there that should be taken advantage of.

Apres ride / shoot beers are on you while the images are downloaded and transferred to a CD that you keep and can print from. I�ve printed my photos as large as 36�x 48� at high resolution for some killer shots! They truly look great on your wall.

Hi! My team mates and I are looking for one or two people to join us during our winter league! We are a co-ed team of all ages (from 25 to 50 years old!) and have been playing together for a few years. But as always, people get injured or decide they want to take a break.

The season starts Dec 6th and ends Feb 28th. There are no games on Dec. 28th or Jan 3rd.

So all we need is two or three players, men or women, to join us this winter at the new fields west of the Gilman Street exit off the 580. Games are Sunday between 1 and 7pm, and there are no practices. Winter games are composed of only 8 people (including a goalie), and we only play half the field. The fees to join are about $40 (fees are split by total number of players, the more of us there are, the cheaper it is!). The only other things you need are a jersey, shin guards, socks, and cleats. And if you like playing with us, at the end of the Winter league you could stay for the Spring league when we play a regular 11 person game! Hope to hear from you soon!

I just got turned on to the rock climbing gym in Berkeley and have gone twice so far, so I am very new to it. I am looking for people who are interested in climbing with me at either the Oakland or Berkeley gyms. I am a 48-year-old woman in excellent shape (I am also an avid cyclist, hiker and I practice yoga) so I can scamper up the wall pretty quickly and am decent at balaying. I'm 5'4" and weigh 125 pounds. I don't know if there are weight recommendations for partners so if you know, please tell me.

I'm free mostly on weekends. I'm interested in confining my climbing to the gym and would like to find people who want to partner with me as schedules permit.

I�ve just begun taking West Coast Swing dance lessons and would like meet with a practice partner about once a week. If you have some basic experience with a few WCS patterns, as well as the ability to keep a beat, we could probably work it out just fine with a can-do attitude, patience, and lots of humor. I�m not looking for romance here so age is not an issue � but just so you know, I�m a fit and active woman in my 50s - you must be able to keep up. If you are married I would want to meet your wife and have her permission to borrow you.

I live in Vallejo and work in Napa so either place, or somewhere in between, would work for me. By the way, I wouldn�t be too keen to do this with someone who didn�t practice basic hygiene, smelled of smoke or stops by the pub to have a few before we meet.

I once had a firm grasp of the at least the basics, but it has slipped away the last few years. Anyone available to help me with my Russian for help in English? Maybe you don't even need conversational help but need someone to correct your papers and such for those pesky little things?

I can drive to meet people in other parts of the East Bay, so long as parking isn't too horrendous where you're at. Even just a penpal would be nice if you don't have time for regular meetings. I write you a letter in Russian, you send it back corrected plus a reply in Russian? Could carry on two lines of correspondence at once for each language? If you know anyone out of the country who would be interested in that let me know how to contact them or vice versa.

I can't find any classes in the Bay besides at Cal, and that's not happening. Haven't been so diligent working on my own, either, so help!

Been climbing for about a year and a half and climb mostly 10s but am looking to push myself into 11s and possibly get my lead card. I'd like to climb about once a week. I'm also interested in climbing outside, but don't have much for equipment.. I am a safe and attentive belayer :)

Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays work best for me, but am willing to work around another schedule. I am able to climb as soon as 5p and like 2 hour sessions.

Running Partner (Berkeley/Oakland)

Looking for running partner, in the Berkeley/Oakland area.

I'm looking to get back into a consistent running schedule with someone, after having taken several months off. Ultimately, I'd like to get out at least two or three times a week. Generally early evenings work best -- possibly a weekend day. At the moment I would describe my pace as "easy." But, hopefully after some re-conditioning I can be back to more of a "moderate" pace. I'm not exactly sure of my minutes-per-mile pace.....ideally, maybe 10 minutes after some training.

I've found a couple of running partners on CL before, who have since moved out of the area. It would be great to have the extra motivation again!

Hi, I am forming a Spanish language study group in South Berkeley, 3 blocks from Ashby BART Station.

I am a native Spanish speaker who immigrated to the U.S. as a one-year-old. At university, I took the Spanish placement exam for native speakers and tested out of (and received credit for) two years of Spanish study. This was thanks to my incredible mother, who taught me Spanish at home, because the foreign language programs at the schools I attended were aimed at assimilating children and taking their (non-English) native languages away. I also completed higher Spanish classes towards my Bachelor's and received �A� grades in all of them.

My focus is on language as an artistic, spiritual, unifying, expressive, connective, cultural, and political force and tool and how we, as diverse communities and travelers, can use the medium of Spanish to expand our personal paradigms, enhance our experiences, and strengthen our societies. It is to that end, that no one will be turned away for lack of funds (we are a non-profit that is always in need of volunteer hours for work-barter) and we focus on what our students wish to learn, not what any dogmatic curricula has to say they should learn.

Students are requested to write down 5 phrases per week and to bring their list to translate in class. If you need help, you can call on a classmate to lend you a hint. These phrases should reflect the situations and exchanges you are hoping to have out in your life and in which knowledge of how to express yourself in Spanish would help you out.

Classes are 2 hours long and meet 1/week. Possible timeslots for the next study group are: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 6 - 8pm, depending on student availability. The curriculum also includes monthly movie and dinner nights. We will provide a Spanish-language movie, subtitled in English, and host a dinner and conversation practice at our studio.

Seeking kindred spirits who would like to meet to discuss books and ideas that explore the meaning of life and what makes for happiness or transcendence.

Participants of the group that I have in mind would share these characteristics:

1. You are less than totally enchanted with this life. Deep depression is not necessary. The group might even benefit from some truly happy individuals. But you must have some misgivings about the uneven distribution of happiness and the goods of this world, and a hankering for something deeper than tv, money, football, or sex.

2. You don�t pretend to have found all the answers to life�s problems and challenges. This will be a group of seekers, not proselytizers. You see nuance and complexity where others might see simple answers and solutions.

3. You are able to listen to others, sympathize with them, and discuss things dispassionately.

I�m hoping that the group could meet somewhere near Oakland once a month. I�m open to a diversity of literary genres � fiction and poetry, for example, in addition to philosophy and psychology. Self-help wouldn�t be one of the genres; and the group, as I envision it, wouldn�t be focused on discussing their specific personal problems � just their struggle to make sense of it all.

Tom Russell lwill be playing several shows in the Bay Area in December, including a Dec 11 show at the Freight and Salvage - I want to attend with someone who likes him as much as I do, rather than merely tolerates him as most of my friends do.

I would also consider going to the Redwood City, Felton and Winters show/s. I am a recent convert and have never seen him live.
