Introducing the basics of Adobe® Photoshop® CS4 and photo editing, this course will focus (pun intended!) on digital photo editing techniques. Perfectly paced for beginners, as well for seasoned users who wish to brush up on their skills, the day is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The instructor will explain concepts, initiate discussion and perform demonstrations via classroom projector. Students will have an opportunity to apply skills they have learned, hands on the computer, as well as receive individualized instruction. Every student will have their own Mac or Windows workstation, and photos will be supplied for this class.
NVC is both a spiritual practice and a concrete set of language and communication skills. Together, they form a powerful process that transforms conflict, creates harmony in your relationships, and builds a world where everyone's needs are met peacefully. All work based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and the book of the same title by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D., founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication.
The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) is offereing free yoga classes to the community during its Winter Session starting January 26th. Classes are one hour in length and will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at A.P. Giannini Middle School (Ortega & 38th).
BEGINNERS YOGA This class is perfect for people new to the practice of yoga as well as more seasoned students who want to review the basics. You will strengthen the foundation of your practice as you gain flexibility, strength, and balance. You will also explore the relationship of movement and breath. Yogic breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques are all introduced.
INTERMEDIATE YOGA A little more vigorous than Beginners, in this class you will explore the specific alignment of asanas (poses) and asana sequences including standing and seated poses, backbends, and sun salutations. Also, we'll dive deeper into an understanding of Yogic Philosophy to stimulate both the body and mind.
Registration for our Yoga classes and other Winter Session offerings will be from December 7th - 11th, from 10:00am-5:00pm @ 3925 Noriega (at 46th). Registration is open to non-Sunset residents but priority will be given to Sunset community members if classroom space becomes an issue.

Most people don't realize that Hatha yoga was invented thousands of years ago for the purpose of preparing the yogi or yogini for meditation. Please join us for a class of approximately 1 hour of Hatha Yoga, 30 minutes of meditation and 30 minutes of discussion. The class is led by two different yoga and meditation teachers each week. Open to all levels of experience with yoga and meditation.
*Class and other events fees go toward the operating costs of the the Bay Area Friends of
the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO), a nonprofit organization. In keeping with the Buddhist tradition, all teaching is done on a volunteer basis.

Art, Yoga, Dance (Ballroom and Latin), ESL Conversation and Literacy, and Computer classes (taught in Cantonese) are all available to you free of cost through the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center's (SNBC) evening programming.
Classes will be held Tuesday-Friday at A.P. Giannini Middle School (close to the 16AX, 29, 48, 71, and a few blocks from the Muni "L").
Registration for our Winter Session (January 19 - March 19, 2010) will be from December 7th - 11th, from 10:00am-5:00pm @ 3925 Noriega (at 46th). Registration is open to non-Sunset residents but priority will be given to Sunset community members if classroom space becomes an issue.

In our classes we always begin with a vigorous group warmup to practice our footwork and prepare for the fencing to come. All three of the modern weapons are taught at En Garde Fencing, and private lessons are available on request from owner and head coach, Jim Liebich. If you're looking for a fun but challenging workout that also requires mental speed and flexibility, fencing is the activity for you!

But now with summer winding down, a few voice lesson slots have opened up, and I wanted to offer them to you. I have room for two new weekly students, and a couple more people for occasional lessons.
Lessons last an hour, cost $60, and are recorded on CD or cassette, so you can get the most out of them by practicing the exercises in-between. We will cover the basics of healthy vocal technique: breathing and support, warm-up exercises, developing vocal range, tone, placement, endurance, dynamics, expression, and articulation. We will work with musical selections ranging from rock, pop, standards, jazz, R&B, country, folk, and even classical arias. I work with technology that can remove the lead vocal from virtually any recording, so I encourage students to bring in CD's of music that they'd like to explore and that inspires them. We can pitch shift those recordings and even alter the tempo for the purpose of practicing and learning that material. Ultimately, the goal is to spotlight the uniqueness of each singer and to build confidence.
